"I've compiled a lengthy list of behaviors we've been dealing with and all of the sensory issues she has. I'm bringing the list with me to the evaluation." Psychs LOVE this sort of stuff! Be prepared to not get a firm diagnosis on the first day....and then be prepared for a variety of diagnoses. Be ...

I just realized I cut and pasted something from one topic to this one. That's what I get for getting up too early and getting on the computer before I've had my coffee! 8O

I remember one time when Daniel was five (he's 11 now) getting angry with him and saying "Why does everything with you have to be so difficult?????" I now have a much better understanding of what was going on back then.....he was just now diagnosed as having aspergers. It does get exhausting at time...

My 11 year old has a tough time with friends....we usually invite anybody he can think of in hopes that enough kids will actually come. It's kindof a double-edged sword....if you have too few kids, the child feels like he doesn't have enough friends. If you have too many kids, the child gets overwhe...

For me, I think the toughest part about parenting an Aspie child and having him be the "only" child in the family is knowing what behavior is attributed to just being a kid and what is driven by aspergers.

Thanks to all of you for your advice.

Forgive my defensiveness if that’s how it comes off. I just get tired of people blaming Daniel’s issues on me. Daniel has undergone any diagnosis you can imagine - we started with attachment therapy, which I am very familiar with - and I understand with either the diagnosis of Attachment Disorder or...

"It sounds like there is plenty of antogonism to go around and all three of you need to grow up!" I must admit this comment hurt my feelings. Daniel's Dad and I went to marriage counseling on and off throughout our 14 year marriage. He is generally incapable of being honest, and insists on being rig...

Oh what I wouldn't have done to have had this "card" when Daniel was 5 through 8. Now that he's 11, his public outbursts are fewer...but here's a piece of advice for you. Through MAAP Services (Serving families of More Advanced Individuals with Autism, Asperger Syndrome, and PDD/NOS), I ordered thes...

Perhaps you're right in that it will take time for all of this to settle out. My Mom used to get so mad at Daniel when he wouldn't act appropriately with her - wouldn't give her any eye contact, no hugs, pretty much no acknowledgement whatsoever. Now, though, (after 6 years of adjusting and learning...

I too think it's important to just blow off steam once in awhile. My 11-year old Aspie can certainly wear me down at times....and when you have nothing more to give, you just can't give anymore. I'm thankful that I'm part of a 12-step recovery program (aa) and have embraced the Serenity prayer. God ...

Hi ~ I am the mom of an 11-year old Aspie boy, Daniel. He was adopted from Romania when he was 2 1/2, and at the age of 4 he was diagnosed as being attachment disodered, at 5 he was diagnosed as bipolar and PDD NOS, and a whole gamut of other things. Now at 11, he's been diagnosed as an Aspie and PD...
