I decided when I was 14. It was an interested that I first developed a fascination for at the age of four. I'm now 42 and still in the same business although from a different angle. |

Am a 40 year old male who is currently trying to obtain a diagnosis. Has anybody else had an adult diagnosis and if so did it make a difference to their life once they had obtained it? I was diagnosed at age 42 (by CLASS in Cambridge). I wanted a professional diagnosis to confirm my own suspicions ... |

I used to hate it - being mauled and pulled and pushed and (what seemed like) criticised. I quite like it now though, with a few provisos. Getting them to cut the chat being one of them. (No, I'm not going out tonight; no I'm not doing anything special to need a haircut; no, I haven't booked/taken/g... |

It doesn't bother me.
In fact, seeing a functioning home-owning adult in a full time job and a permanent relationship might help to dispel the 'head-banging nutter' autistic stereotype.
If other people don't know the meaning of the word autistic, that's their problem, not ours. |

Gary Numan... That explains a lot! I was mad on him when I was about 15, loved the morbid lyrics of the first Tubeway Army album and even dressed like him and painted my nails and dyed my hair to match. A severe case of hero-worship I think! I had no idea that I was AS at the time, so this thread is... |

I had one as a child and my partner bought one last year. They are very relaxing. One of his daughters is fascinated by it too.

I don't really like the word 'aspie' but then I have an aversion to abbreviations in general. I certainly don't consider it an insult, particularly as it is used prolifically on sites like this. When I do something noticeably non-NT, my partner takes great delight in calling me "Aspie Freak". This i... |

I was scared of them as a child but learnt to enjoy them in my 20s, to the point of organising the work's annual bonfire party. I love them visually but don't like the once that screech or just make huge bangs for the sake of being noisy. But I have a dog now and she gets very anxious with both the ... |

Hi Machine X, This sounds very familiar to me. I work in DTP and like you, I have to have many applications open all at the same time: Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge, Lotus Notes, Word... I definitely function far better when left alone. One of my bosses works remotely so we communicate by... |

The idea of lanterns to indicate that you are a willing participant seems infinitely sensible. That way everyone gets what they want. I had no lantern outside my house last night when a gang knocked so loudly I thought they were going to break the door down. 8O I nearly jumped out of my skin when th... |

Tonight is the night. I'd like ask people's opinions on this 'custom'. I don't really know how to phrase my query in its entirety, as this seems to be a predominantly American site. In America, T&T seems to be a much-loved seasonal festivity. Many English people see it as an abominable Americani... |

I often don't feel cuts and bruises until I see them. I thought that was normal. Once I've noticed them they don't hurt but I am aware of them, especially if they are in a vulnerable place likely to suffer further damage from everyday clumsiness. |
