I am a 26 year old woman diagnosed with autism level 1 using the DSM-5. I was not diagnosed until I was an adult, and this was after Asperger's was combined with other autistic-related disorders to form the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders. I know "Asperger's" in and of itself is typ... |

My sister and I have always experienced intense muscle contractions in our sides/back as a reflex to certain sounds that are close to us (such as voices in our ears) and can even be triggered by someone standing too close (even if we can't see them but we know they're there). I never knew what it wa... |

I have a good list of things I am deeply interested in, but if I had to put one "label" on it all, I would say my special interest is simply learning. I learn all kinds of things (hobbies, skills, how things work, and general research on things I find interesting) but the things I learn ar... |

I am going to get an online assessment done by a Canadian specialist, Natalie Engelbrecht, when I have the chance to do so. I live in the US, and I believe her diagnoses are accepted by the court systems and probably accepted by most other systems in the US as well. I'm sick of flipping back and for... |

There's another avenue that you could pursue: Being a research subject. MonaPereth, who posts here and has knowledge in this area, for some information on this. You can obtain a formal diagnosis for free (or even make a little money) through this method. You would be interviewed by a PhD candidate-... |

I really do appreciate the discussion everyone is having with me - this is proving to be helpful, so thank you. I haven't made up my mind yet. It's a rather long story so bullet points: - three years ago a counselor with a child (adult child diagnosed later) said she was very convinced I was on the ... |

Just because she's a "famous" expert does not make her an appropriate reference for your local school. Ask your department head if Ms. Marshall would be enough. We don't know what your department head's standards may be. Thank you for responding, I really do appreciate it, however the pur... |

For those who haven't heard of Tania Marshall, she is licensed in Australia and specializes in adult, female autism (can diagnose in Australia - not sure if that carries over to the US). Claims to provide video chat services - again, not sure if a diagnosis can successfully be made this way. Her ser... |

If you are not interested in a formal (a.k.a., "Real") diagnosis, then a diagnosis-by-mail from anyone would work. I do want a real diagnosis. She is a diagnostic professional, just not in the same country as me. I'm not sure if it counts. I don't think it does from a government viewpoint... |

I am an adult female who has reached out to Tania Marshall after having been told by a counselor that she suspected I have mild autism a few years ago. I had not been interested in a formal diagnosis because it hadn't really gotten in the way (I have achieved all of my goals so far and I am happy). ... |
