My brother has a service dog for his anxiety-driven seizures. Not specifically an ASD-related item, but suffice to say a trained dog can do you well. I say TRAINED because I had an untrained (and very sweet) lab/hound mix who I had to rehome because she was just way too active for my lifestyle. She ...

Look up salary reports on Glassdoor or Comparably for your area. Generally if you get hired in a specific area you get a salary commensurate with that location. Remote hire is a bit trickier to negotiate, but you can usually tell what the range is for a fair salary quote by doing research on one of ...

Hi team, I was on here briefly last year and decided to show up again. I don't know how long I'll stick around but the pandemic fatigue is getting to me a little and I suppose I needed an understanding social outlet. I'm happily married to a possible ASD person (we refer to each other as "my fa...

Listening to music and journaling pulled me through most of my serious depressive episodes. The one helped me to feel emotions and the other helped me to express them in ways I couldn't by speaking.

Forum: Work and finding a Job   Topic: A pattern among employed and employable autistic people

A pattern I seem to see is that autistic people who have even a somewhat decent employment history or those who are ready to be hired seem to not have serious sensory issues. Whenever I look up information about autistic people seeking employment, the articles cover mostly social and communication ...

I agree with KT. Being in a job you hate is almost worse than being unemployed, because you won't be able to do your best at the job and risk losing it for sub-par performance. You don't need to have an absolute "dream job," but if you feel you'd hate a job or get a bad feeling about the b...

Technical writer. I just got hired on in a more diversified role where I'm a jack of all trades business writer/analyst, though. Very exciting.

Have you heard of the new type of dental care that uses meditation instead of Novocaine? It's called transcendentistry.

I can't use noise cancelling headphones because they create an acoustic pressure I find painful. I do use earphones (the in-ear kind) with memory foam tips that help keep outside noise down and help me focus on music, which is very calming to me. When I go to restaurants, I just have to request a se...

Is anyone else here married to a fellow aspie?

Yes (though she doesn't have an official diagnosis, it's pretty likely that she's aspie). Been married 9 months now and it's been magical.

I met my second (current) wife on OkCupid. It worked out well because we took our time getting to know each other and we had both answered a ton of their multiple choice questions which meant it matched us more accurately. I have found that online dating was the only thing that worked for me because...

Please don't go off suddenly. Withdrawal symptoms are horrible ... I had to go cold turkey off one that was literally killing me and I had excruciating full-body muscle spasms for three days while in withdrawals. I've been on Abilify (aripiprazole) for years and it hasn't caused weight gain for me, ...

Sorry to hear things are horrible. California's a big place but I know there are resources in the Bay Area for ASD types if you live around that area of Cali. I'm in the region too, though I'm new here and haven't built up trust points yet, I know... Do you have anyone nearby who you trust for suppo...

"I won't break so easily anymore," by Kino. I shared it with my wife today to encourage her. The song was also a big help to me during my divorce from my first wife.

Hirk Eukvic here. That's not my real name, but the real me is hidden somewhere in there. I just landed in Silicon Valley earlier this year and stumbled upon your crew after reading NeuroTribes. I was diagnosed in my 30s and am early in my journey of self understanding. Hopefully I can make some non-...
