GrantZilla wrote: "Why is it that I'm constantly seeing women coming on here thinking their boyfriend has AS and have made a diagnoses themselves." Well, since AS is only a recent diagnosis, I would think there would be a fair number of undiagnosed guys out there. As their intimate partner, a girlfr... |

You are correct that generally you would maintain eye contact until she greets you as well. |

Professional evaluation by a neutral party might be the way to go. I was just hoping to avoid that because of the cost and we'd have to travel far. Does anyone know how much an evaluation would cost (approximately)? |

I don't really want to change his behavior...his behavior is fine...it's just different. What I really want is for both of us to understand why we might sometimes see or interpret things differently, react differently, need to make extra efforts to be understood...I want to be able to talk about all... |

Some more thoughts and info -- My BF and I are both really easy going. We get along really well and haven't had any major issues. My only real concern about our relationship (so far) is not that he is on the spectrum, but that he doesn't KNOW he's on the spectrum. When an AS/NT issue comes up, I wan... |

I have suggested to him that I think he has AS. He was open to the possibility, and even checked a book out of the library. I don't think he read it -- just scanned a checklist. I think it was one of Tony Atwood's book. From my BF's point of view, the concerns he has have to do with his cognitive, l... |

How important in an AS/NT relationship is it for the AS partner to know/realize/accept that he is on the spectrum? Is it enough for both partners to realize that there are differences and be willing to work on them, like with any relationship? Or does he really need to have an understanding of what ... |

Thank you for all the advice, suggestions and support. Okay, now I know I'm not going crazy (at least in one respect...) All the encouragement is wonderful. I really, really like this guy and we get along really, really well. Even in the very beginning, when I had no clue why he was so different, it... |

It sounds like you are in a tough situation. Are you in danger of being harmed physically? Even if you are committed to making your relationship work, you need to seek some help here. In many places, there is a local domestic violence hotline you can call. There's also a national hotline -- you can ... |

I am pretty sure my BF (we met over the internet, he’s almost 40) has undiagnosed Asperger’s or is otherwise on the spectrum. I have read everything I can get my hands on about ASDs., but wanted to get a second (third, fourth, and fifth…) opinion – at least as far as knowing if I’m way off base here... |

Thank you for the welcomes and the suggestions! I don't think he needs serious help. :) I just think it would be helpful for both of us to have a better understanding of what our differences/difficulties might be, and how to work with them. Although if there were any job assistance services availabl... |

Hello Everyone, I am a new member and an NT (for whatever that's worth...) I came to this site because for the last few months I have been involved with a wonderful man who lives about a thousand miles from me. He is smart, funny, and creative...and different from anyone I know. I am fairly positive... |
