Also, my not-so-mentally-stable aunt posted on Facebook something very mean and disparaging about Asperger's. Something to the effect of "...more like 'head-up-his-ass'..." My Momma posted back that she was so ashamed to have anyone in our family making fun of someone with a diagnosed disability. Mo... |

One of the "guidance counselers" at my Aspie son's middle school (he's now in 9th grade) told him that he needs to be in a straight jacket in a psych ward. My husband, also a teacher, brought down the wrath of the autism proponents and advocates. I'm now not so sure that teacher still works there. |

I get confused and embarrassed, and sometimes hurt. Someone will say [whatever] and I reply, "Seriously?" or I'll actually answer rhetorical questions and they say (while rolling their eyes) "I was just JOKING." I just feel like they're trying to make me look idiotic or something. |

I am a Registered Nurse at a prison, and I absolutely LOVE my job--not only am I obsessed with anatomy & physiology, but my work environment is a perfect match for me, for whatever reason(s). What I am wondering is: what kind of feelings or emotions should I have when a patient (or anyone else, ... |

Thank you all for your advise: some of your comments made me laugh so hard and to realize that I CAN stand up to her and say "whatever." Because of some of her particularly heinous actions towards my mother in the past few months, we have decided to cut off any and all contact with her, forever if n... |

Parents divorced when I was 3 yrs old. My father died 25 yrs ago at age 43 in a boating accident, but I don't remember him having any AS qualities. In fact, he used to get so frustrated because I would rather stay home and read or watch Star Wars rather than go out on the boat. He was more of an "ou... |

I am very fortunate to be able to work a nursing shift that is 1900-0700. I tend to keep this schedule even on my days off, except when I need to attend to some daytime appointments and whatnot. My husband is a teacher so he takes the kids (youngest is 14) to school with him so that I can sleep duri... |

Thank you all for your help and advice. BN1111, you are right about her not deserving my time nor energy. She has "no life" so she likes to stir up trouble so that there is always some drama to fill that void she has. It got to the point where she was stalking--yes, stalking--my sister and me around... |

My 14 year old son was dx with AS years ago by a brilliant autism/AS doctor in our city (she is also the cheif doctor in Developmental Studies, and has been published in peer-reviewed journals). After my son's 4th or 5th visit to her, she asked me some questions about what it was like growing up, my... |

Hello, First, a little background: My 13 yo son and I are both Aspie. He HATES 8th grade--has never liked school at all. There are many reasons for his dislike: teachers who don't "get" him, bullies, studying subjects in which he is not interested, etc. In the past year or so, he has gotten very int... |

Thank you for this post--I found it at a time when I desperately needed to read it. My son and I both have AS. He is almost 12 and his aggression has become stronger in the last several months or so. I am attributing this to the surge of testosterone which occurs in adolescent boys. However, in the ... |
