I like the level 1, 2 and 3 labels better because they are defined by how much support a person requires as a result of their autism. Whereas with functioning labels you are either high functioning or low functioning with no room in between and no one really agreed on what constitutes high or low fu... |

I usually can't tell. I know a few autistic people and the only reason I know they are autistic is because they told me. Otherwise I wouldn't have known. There is only one person I've met who I was certain he was autistic without him telling me. He was rocking back and forth, repeating what I said t... |

The only way I'm fine with this is if the designation is entirely voluntary. I hope the ACLU consulted autistic people before making the statement. |

There are absolutely levels in autism. I like how the DSM categorized autism into 3 levels. The levels are clearly defined based on how much support a person requires as a result of their autism. Level 1: Requiring support Level 2: Requiring substantial support Level 3: Requiring very substantial su... |

My oldest memory is of when I was 2. My parents went grocery shopping and I was sitting on the seat in the shopping cart. I also remember an instance where I was on the floor with my grandma and she was helping me put shapes in the shape sorter. Once we got it in both my mom and grandma say "ya... |

I also struggled with my weight. I bought a treadmill and basically was on it for 2 hours a day during work days and more on the weekend. I would watch TV while on the treadmill. When I walk to much my back hurts but the treadmill has handles I can hold on to. |

It's because the topic of sex is taboo and not really appropriate, so people laugh when it's discussed in a setting like that. |

My guess would be autism-specific groups tend to keep a strict routine since autistic people often have difficulty with routine changes. |

If they want to meaningfully serve autistic people, they should be working to destigmatize autism. As a disabled person, I dislike when people try to tiptoe around the words disabled and disability and replace it with euphemisms like "special needs," "differently abled" and "... |

There are many conditions that result in executive dysfunction besides autism, like ADHD which I have. There are actually 8 executive functions. 1. Self-Control The ability to stop and think before acting 2. Emotional Control The ability to manage feelings to achieve goals and complete tasks 3. Task... |
