Vladis strongest subject is math but his writting is awful and the teacher does not understand him so she can't give him proper credit. He is now beginning to lie about assignments and not do them. I am very sad  Hi All4Vladi, My son is 9 and his writting (especially Chinese characters) used t... |

Same thing happened to my son yesterday: a classmate drew something funny and he couldn't stop laughing which drove those around him crazy. This makes him a real easy target for sabotage. :x I stop the urge to laugh at inappropriate times by refocusing my thoughts on something else, especially somet... |

BeeBee,
I have been reading your posts. To me, you are a very, very brave mom who have put in so much effort to understand and care for your children. You go girl!
Best wishes to you. |

An old trick I used: In your conversation, create an opportunity to have a bet with him. Eg, which football team wins, some amazing facts, american idol... Bet on something like a cup of coffee. If he wins and he gives you specific instructions as to how he likes his latta and wants it on his desk b... |

What i don't understand is this: I save my more noticeable stims (a bit of flapping hands...I'm a cliche) for home. Can my son really decide when/where to flap? I mentioned he does other small actions like humming, putting things into his mouth, rubbing his lips. Are these also stim activities? Righ... |

When my boy was younger, he insisted on white shirt and white pants. Then I moved him to white with prints, then light colours and now he wears anything. |

My main stim was hand-flapping as a kid. I would do it to concentrate on fantasy scenarios, like being a jousting knight or a famous rock star. I would stim physically while mentally fantasizing as a means of escape. I think this may be what my son does - stim physically while mentally fantasizing ... |

Many thanks for the replies. I definitely have a lot of thinking to do. Because he is getting older, I feel bad about scolding/punishing him. At the end of each day, I have to do a lot of "relationship damage control". But I am also worried that if I "approve" stimming, he will spend even more time ... |

"he may not even be overtly aware that he is doing it" - I think he may be aware because he will stop immediately when he sees/hears me coming. May I ask how old are you and can you control when to stim? His psychologist said the stim will go away when he gets older but from what I read in this foru... |

My son is 8 years old. He has some Asperger's traits, including stimming (hand flapping and tiptoeing). He does this in school during certain lessons and at home when he is supposed to be doing his homework. He rarely stim during his free time (he rather reads or draws or ....). I forbid him to stim... |
