Thank you for your response, and congrats on the diagnosis. I actually can relate to going back and forth myself. Imposter syndrome is real, as sometimes I feel so strongly that I am and my therapist is right, and other times I can trick myself into believing I’m just quirky with anxiety/some PTSD....

I echo the seeming consensus against disclosure. An ADA request is not a guarantee that you will get the accommodations you request. The employer is only bound by the “reasonable” criterion, so if it would not be reasonable for the business, they don’t have to grant it. Further, if the request you m...

Yes, unfortunately people get into management who have no business being in leadership. I’ve run into far too many like the person you describe. I think your course of action is sound, keep working while looking for a job elsewhere. It’s possible your manager’s actions can make life there difficult ...

And by the 90s I was married (now divorced) and employed and working on a Masters. No chance there, either. Because I didn’t recognize the value of mental healt...

I waited until I could tell my family in-person about my diagnosis. In hindsight I didn't need to do that. (a) They already thought I was odd, so no change there, and (b) when you get right down to it, no action is required on their part. I just told my sisters last evening. (Both my parents are de...

I’m 54 and I was diagnosed just last week. Although it appears your desire to be evaluated is more pragmatic (school accommodations, insurance), and it also appears you feel pretty certain about your autism, I very much recommend getting a diagnosis, especially since it appears it will be easier for...

I’m a 54 year old male, who was diagnosed with ASD this past Friday. I haven’t shared it with my family or even my regular therapist yet. I am not sure how to process this. The psychiatrist who evaluated me gave me the diagnosis. And that was that. She’ll be mailing me the report and more resources....
