Video games usually calm my son down. He has to have a lot of advance notice of time to stop playing (or he tantrums big) and if he plays too long he can get a little stimmy, but usually it just keeps him calm. He carries his DS in his pocket when he goes anywhere and he even sleeps with it like a t... |

My son had pneumonia a couple of weeks ago. He is medically fine now, but he's not quite over it emotionally. He's started skin picking again and now has about a 4"x6" area on his forearm covered in sores. I'm trying to keep it from getting infected, but it is hard since he keeps picking at it. If h... |

The special ed teacher has been the only one who has been able to get him to play outside with other boys his age (without complaining or tantruming). If children spend hours on one thing, or don't want to go out, or won't play with most other children, this is apparently a problem. That is what I ... |

He eats the same thing most days.
Breakfast
*6 saucer-sized pancakes
Lunch
*picks at his food and doesn't eat much of anything
Dinner
*Frozen pizza, taco caserole, chicken sandwich, or hamburger
There isn't much variety. I do make sure he gets a multi-vitamin every day. |

I would suggest talking to the other mom. It is quite possible that everything happened exactly the way you were told, but I have had instances where both of my kids have interpreted things incorrectly or remembered things that didn't actually happen. For instance, my NT 5 yr old told me last week t... |

Why not see how he is if he stays home all day instead? 8) His behavior is actually worse when he is home all day. I've seen this during the summer. He craves a level of structure that no matter how hard I try I just can't seem to provide. I've tried stricter routines and it doesn't seem to work as... |

I was taught at home as a child. Honestly, I don't think I could do it. It would be one thing to teach my NT child at home. My aspie son can be very oppositional. I don't think that either of us could handle it emotionally. Right now he's not doing so well at school (he's recovering form pneumonia a... |

I still haven't figured out playdates. With my AS son I alsays end up "hovering" and it ends up annoying the other parents. With my NT son it seems to work ok because he just runs off and plays. |

You're right. He was out for over a week total. Last Friday the school had to call the EMTs because he was so out of control. The school has backed way off. He isn't going to the mainstream class at all and he is doing very little academic work. Yesterday he stayed for 3 hours and all he did all day... |

I'm pretty much at a loss. My 8 (almost 9) year old son is getting over a really bad case of pneumonia. Before he got sick he was doing great. He was making good grades and hadn't had a tantrum at school since November. They were in the process of transitioning him into a mainstream classroom and he... |

It started off as rubbing. He would spit on his finger and then rub his face by his eye over and over until it was raw. Now he has progressed to picking at his skin in his forearm and ankle until he has these little sores. I desperatly wish he would rock or hand flap instead. At least I wouldn't hav... |

We were in denial for a long time. When he was spending most of his time at school under a desk growling at people and needed to be picked up early every day for behavior issues... we knew there was a problem. I should have realized that there was something going on when he was 23 months old and lin... |

Mine will be 9 in a couple of months and so far I don't think we are there yet. He has a huge obsession with video games (especially Pokemon right now) that has been going on for a few years, but all of his other obsessions change. He also tends to have different obsessions at home and school. Latel... |

I also have one (8 1/2 yrs. old) obsessed by video games. In the past he would actually get violent when the game had to be turned off (I've been punched several times, bitten, and he tried to throw a dresser drawer through his window. ) He also occasionally pees his pants when he is playing,... |

I'm trying to figure this out too. Video games are his main obssession right now, so sometimes I do limit how much I will listen to him talking about it (otherwise I would get absolutely nothing done). I'm not really sure how much I should let him play. He probably plays way too much right now. He a... |

I just found out that my 8 year old (aspie) is perserverating on a topic at school that he has never even mentioned at home. He is absolutely obsessing about planets and geology all day while he is at school. When I found out I even offered to get him a book about it for home and he wasn't intereste... |
