I can't feel or express real love. I can only fake what I think this 'love' thing is. Guys have left me over this.

An interest in the sciences is more acceptable in Asian cultures. Social nonconformity and behavioral quirks are even less accepted, and disability services are far less existent than in the West.

"Would a re-diagnosis actually help? As far as I am aware, you do not need to diisclose things like autism to employers, so it makes no odds unless you are looking for additional help or concessions. " I'm seeking re-diagnosis to qualify for vocational help, career counseling, and documentation in c...

A bit of background. My parents have always been deeply ashamed of my autism and did not get me vocational planning. This is partly because we are immigrants from Asia, where mental illness is considered highly disgraceful. Their friends' kids include multiple Intel award winners. 'Friends' I've had...

You're not alone. Everyone tells me that I'm a user and manipulative, particularly boyfriends / ex-boyfriends.

I've been hanging out with a guy I liked from one of my faith communities. We had some good times together, had lots of things in common, but he suddenly got mad and stopped talking to me. I mean, what's up? This seems to be a common pattern with me: I talk and build a very strong rapport (their wor...

Has anyone read the books or gone to the workshops. Some folks in my religious community have recommended these to me. Would you say that they help us cope and get along in society, or that they're just snake oil and do more damage than good? Would there be a specific way to apply these that works b...

I'm the only HFA I know, and I know 1 dxed Aspie and 2 self-dx at my university. They're cool folks, but the guy I know who's dxed is... I don't know how to describe it, but I sort of don't get along with him because we just don't have anything in common and he talks about private stuff (like sexual...

Hey folks :) Interesting discussion we have here! While I'm not AS, I was diagnosed with 'autistic disorder, Kanner's' when I was a kid. My $0.02? I don't consider myself disabled, never had problems with employment, but consider myself part of the community because I've been diagnosed before. I con...

I love parties, particularly when I know at least 1 person there. But what I like more are parties with a purpose. Stuff like spiritual mixers, network-based gatherings of financial students and professionals, and the like. When I'm at a party without a purpose, I often feel like I'm wasting time un...

By 'preppy' and 'jock' folks, I meant hardcore Business, Accounting, Finance and Corporate Law students who are involved heavily in student government, athletics, and the like. The drunkards, I do agree, are a horrid group to hang around at university (they are not true 'preps' with class). The reas...

Duke, I feel that it's not 'creating cognitive models' that's the problem. It's the unbalanced development of intellectual and other 'splinter' skills in many (but not all! auties) just speaking for myself - in favor of other skills. I certainly spent a lot of time drawing and the like when I was sm...
