I don't think that many people here would disagree with you, Obstinate. I think the majority of people here really want meaningful friendships but are unable to form them. The people who say they don't are kidding themselves....although I do think that some of us (myself included) have a much lower ...

Forum: Random Discussion   Topic: are people who dont have kids considered failures?

I don't like the idea that one specific choice in life can make you a success or a failure. Certainly not one that doesn't affect anyone's life but your own. People have only had the choice to not have children for around 50 years now. Before that, being childless carried a huge stigma because it me...

I used to work in a newsroom and that was what a psycho journalist said to me once. I must have seem like an 'uppity' woman or something. They guy was having horrendous problems at the time but uh, is that what they do in NT world? 'break' daughters? I would have chewed him up one side and down the...

(sorry ,but this is apt to a long post and may be truncated-- I'm new here) As a female NT who has just realized that her very close platonic male friend of 2 1/2 years could very well be on the AS continuum, I could use some advice here. First off, let me explain why I'm guessing that he's AS. His...

I've always had trouble with being complimented. I'm uncomfortable with people paying attention to me. I have noticed that I'm much more comfortable with compliments on my work or something I've done than a compliment towards me personally. It seems there's no good way to respond. "Thank you" and a ...

Forum: Social Skills and Making Friends   Topic: Are internet friends better than real life friends?

Hard question. I prefer real life friendships, but I am always disappointed at their lack of depth. Internet friendships are deeper, more intellectual, more emotionally honest and intimate - but internet friends can't spend time with you. They can't come over and watch movies, they can't go to conce...

I really suck at anything that requires a witty, off the cuff response. My brain just does not operate that way. I never know how to respond when someone is joking around or flirting with me, which is a shame since I can be really funny under the right conditions. Just not on command, apparently.

I love doing calculations or making spreadsheets to track and postulate anything from my finances, to how long it will take to lose five pounds, to statistics for video games I play. I also love making lists of any type. Things I need to do, things I already did, places I want to go, things I need t...

I know you live in Denmark, but it it somewhat like that here in the U.S. There is little focus on training and educating people on welfare and disability to try to find something they COULD do, at least part time. It could be mandatory for people who are able to work (like people who abuse the welf...

If all you want is something physical, why don't you just hire a prostitute instead of attempting to manipulate women into doing things they wouldn't normally do? Your elaborate plan is not only in extremely poor taste, but highly illegal and could get you into trouble.

Forum: Social Skills and Making Friends   Topic: Do people treat you like if you were younger?

This happens to me a lot. Sometimes it bothers me, sometimes it doesn't. I look quite a bit younger than I am and combined with my personality I guess it is inevitable. It has some obvious upsides, such as being seen as naive and harmless. Harmless, yes. Naive, no. Just the same, people tend to trus...

I don't think I have it, and I don't think a lot of people here have it. I also don't think it matters at all. I post here because I relate to a lot of the social problems that people with AS go through. I'm sure that applies to many of us here. In addition, I think that people who do not have AS sh...

Huge fan checking in.

I've never seen them in concert, I'm much too young. I'm hoping for that tour though.

At least half of their catalogue are my "favorite" songs by them. The songs I like are spread over all of the albums, but I tend to like the heavier stuff more.

What a nice and respectful thread. I am not a Christian but I hope you find friends here that are. I understand how this forum could be an oppressive place for people who are believers to post, and I'm sorry it is that way. In an ideal world, all people of every belief (and non-belief) could have re...

I just wanted to tell you I can relate to this. I get so tired of the expectation and pressure people put on their peers to be in relationships. You can find people who will accept you if you are gay, jobless, homeless, of any religious faith, with any physical or mental disease, transgendered, disa...

I think we all have doubts like this, but no matter what happens, with a bachelor's degree, you'll make a lot more money no matter WHAT you choose to do. There's nothing that says you won't get a job in the Geology field, but if you decide you don't like it, it's not the end of the world. I am in a ...
