Before I get to the trailers for the movie I saw today, I thought I would share all the movies I have seen up to this point: In front of "Moana 2" (12/6/24): A Minecraft Movie Paddington In Peru The Bad Guys 2 Dogman Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Elio Lilo and Stitch Mufasa: The Lion King In front ...

I live in the United States, where (per Chat AI) the general rule under the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) is that bypassing encryption or copy protection mechanisms (such as those found on DVDs and Blu-Rays) is illegal, even for personal use. This means that, technically, ripping DVDs or ...

It makes me wonder if Los Angeles has a future at all, especially since Trump has made it abundantly clear that he will not provide funding for the state. It will no longer be seen as a communications hub or the major metropolis it once was.

Technically, with the way it's set up, shouldn't the Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge ride at the Universal parks (or "Koopa's Challenge" in the Japanese park's case) be considered a one-player game instead of multiplayer, since all the riders are all part of Team Mario? In an actual Mario K...

When I'm watching something on DVD versus on streaming, it feels weird. I keep expecting the DVD to be interrupted by an ad. Speaking of, as I may have said, the physical media also comes with ads that are not skippable either. Once, I watched a bit of "Race", and you are prohibited from b...

It looks like only around 15% of PBS' funding comes from government sources. The rest is funded independently, via private donations and fundraising. Trump could only "defund" that 15% they get from the government, but can't do much about the rest. Hardly the final nail in the coffin. Why...

I indirectly heard a rumor that Trump's team will defund PBS, which would effectively eliminate it forever. It actually came from the Hollywood Reporter's article on "Sesame Street" not being renewed for HBO Max, and many were speculating where it could go, since PBS still aired the show, ...

The other thing is that physical media players, like all electronics, require electricity, which also costs money (i.e., electric bills). And if the power goes out (as in a blackout), you can't watch physical media either.

On some DVDs and Blu-Rays, you can't really skip the ads that play automatically at the start. I just watched a bit of "Race", and you are prohibited from bypassing the ads with the menu button. You have to repeatedly press the "skip" button just to get to the main menu. And the...

There's also the issue of unskippable ads, which is not only an issue on streaming, but also on physical media. On some DVDs and Blu-Rays, you can't really skip the ads that play automatically at the start. I just watched a bit of "Race", and you are prohibited from bypassing the ads with ...

Also, there's the cost to actually buy the Blu-Ray, DVD, etc. Streaming something may be about, say, $10 to $20 a month, but physical media can cost upwards of, say, $25. Even more if it's out of print. I for one am still looking for the complete set of "Pee-wee's Playhouse" on Blu-Ray for...

I have brought up the issue of physical media versus streaming before, but everyone keeps talking about how, with physical media, you own something forever. But while it's true that physical media gives you a sense of ownership, it comes with its own drawbacks, which I think are just as important as...

I always prefer to speak to people in person instead of call them over the phone because I have to put up with the automated system and then having to wait for long periods of time. Where I work I have a very limited amount of time to get in touch with someone before going back to work, about 15 min...

Hmm. I guess they used video sell videos. I think I've played maybe one video disk in the last decade or so. I still have a bunch of dvds, but no optical drive player of any kind anymore. Forgot they put video ads to sell more dvds - but what I was sure of was that they don't put commercials for pr...
