In contrast to the ignorant, poor portrayal of people with Asperger's Syndrome in Rex Reed's review of "Adam," here is a more positive, informed, and understanding piece talking about the movie and Asperger's from the New York Times : August 3, 2009 Asperger’s Syndrome, on Screen and in Life By NEIL...

The important thing to remember when trying to associate his Rex Reed's piece with journalism is that it isn't journalism. He's a movie critic. While he should be held to the same standards of a reporter, he's not. He's meant to sell shock, spin, and his personal opinions in editorial form. The over...

That's a really cool idea. It's essentially an applied human communications course.

I haven't participated in them recreationally but I have participated in debates in class and was required to take public speaking classes for my major.

I dislike white milk. I prefer chocolate milk. Also I don't dip cookies or anything in milk. Same here... well until I developed an allergy to chocolate and now it's no milk for me. The smell and taste of plain milk is nauseating to me. Maybe if I didn't grow up on skim milk my feelings on the subj...

PETA is an organization for the "ethical treatment of animals"; ethical media crusades not so much. It's disgusting to see an organization that's supposed to have a positive message destroy it through scare tactics and intentionally deceitful messages through the media to sell their ideals. I'm all ...

I did something similar a while back when a girl I happened to be crushing on was trying to give me a drink. She had 2 of them and was being nice offering me one of them. The problem was I couldn't actually drink it because of one of the things it contained (hooray food allergies!) and I wasn't thin...

Do what makes you happy. (Yes, I know it's easier said than done.) Trying to please others is only going to make you miserable. If you feel the need to be secretive about it, go for it but don't live in fear of "being caught". Lets face it, we live in a world where people are small-minded and look d...

His social skills aren't typical (normal). Yes, he is fairly well spoken and can appear to be normal at times but he has some obvious quirks. He doesn't make eye contact. He uses sunglasses to hide that. It may appear to be for his image but the shades help to hide where your eyes are really looking...

If you're worried about embarrassing her, don't ask her out in front of other people. Try to catch her at a moment where it's just the 2 of you and keep it casual.

If you are worried about getting embarrassed, that's an entirely different animal.

Happy Birthday. I don't celebrate my birthdays either (and I typically don't drink) and I did nothing on my 21st. It all depends on what you want to do. It's not like you're required to go out and get smashed for your 21st. It may be suggested as a rite of passage but it's not something you have to ...

A quiet cafe/coffee shop works well early on for getting to know each other. It's not too loud, it's not expensive, it's a relaxed atmosphere, and you get to let the conversation carry the date.

Leaving the situation that triggered it is key. Trying to unwind with some music and walking around also helps me let it out. I try to avoid doing anything too mellow afterwards as it leaves me feeling drained. Anything that'll redirect my focus and adrenaline helps.

My grades were typically strong in subjects I was interested in or felt the need to prove myself. In subjects I wasn't interested in or the teacher was less than approachable, my grade suffered. It'd be relatively easy to look at my report cards and tell me what classes & teachers I enjoyed.
