Currently, dogs, especially pit bulls and other bully breeds. Everything remotely dog-related is fascinating to me. This has been going on a while and is a good thing in a way because I work in a dog care facility and my drive to know everything about them makes me good at what I do. That was me fi... |

Interesting thread. I have both. I have AS but was abused as a child (both physically and sexually) and raped as a young adult and have chronic PTSD as a result. What I discovered through years of therapy is that many of my PTSD symptoms and AS symptoms overlap, so much in fact that there are certai... |

Yes, yes, yes! When I was younger I used to have panic tantrums in spaces crowded with people. I thought of it as a sort of claustrophobia, only it wasn't small spaces that were the problem but having to share the space with too many. I still can get very on edge and irritable in crowds. |

My father is diagnosed bipolar and though no one ever diagnosed him with Asperger's (it wasn't a diagnosis when he grew up) it's generally accepted in my family that he has it and that's where I get it from, because some parts of his personality are so similar to mine. |

I'm 26 but I didn't answer the poll because I hate check-the-box age questions that divide the 20s into early and late. Why couldn't it be 18-29? Or 20-29? Being in a separate category makes me feel old. |

What was the "god part"? It was edited out by the time I read it....
It does sound a lot like me as a kid and probably something my mohter would clip out and send to me... but I do agree it oversimplifies a bit. |

My first memory - crystal clear to this day - happened when I was just one and a half. My mother confirms that it actually happened and that's how old I was. |

I do relate to naming as well. I have my own names for my parents and some of my friends. But it's my partner who has a name for me that no one else knows or uses. |

I always notice spelling errors! I find misspellings in published works. My mom always said I should get a job as a proofreader. |

I'm actually the other way... I have little concept of money, and this can be sort of a problem for me. I won't keep track of how much is in my bank account until I start to wonder if I have any left at all, then I call the bank and check. I'll sometimes buy things without even noticing how much the... |

Both Temple Grandin and Dawn Prince-Hughes have mentioned this, so I know it's common. I do it sometimes... sometimes when I get sad thinking about other times in my life it isn't the people I miss but the places, and I don't know how to express this without people thinking I'm weird or insensitive ... |

Something I mentioned in the Look Me in the Eye thread got me thinking about this. When I was in my early teens (in the late 1990s) I developed, after seeing her in a movie, a fanatical obsession with Cyndi Lauper. I dressed like her, talked like her, and collected every picture of her I found in a ... |

I actually used to do the lying/pretending thing a lot... I remember when I had this weird thing about Cyndi Lauper and I spent two years convincing the school janitor I was from Brooklyn by imitating her accent. I think what got me the most was saying things like Aspies are good with machines (I ad... |

My partner is a non-Aspie (she HATES being called an NT-- "what is typical and who wants to be it?") But she has always been very understanding of my quirks and traits. She will help explain things to me when I "just don't get it"-- especially in social situations when I miss a cue or when someone i... |
