Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it.

I’m in the middle of “pondering” all this.

I have a brother who was diagnosed PDD-NOS. And two of my nephews and at least one grade school age cousin have been officially diagnosed, so it’s definitely in our family. I’m thinking ASD, ADD/ADHD (which also runs muchly in my family), plus dysfunctional family dynamics that go back generations a...

Thank you for your reply. I had to think about it a bit. I was raised by parents who had their own load of wounds and trauma, who were raised by my grandparents who had *their* own wounds and trauma. I was never the victim of a crime, but my parents didn’t know how to act like regular people. By the...

Hi. I’m feeling overwhelmed at the moment. I know I’m grieving. I’m grieving for my childhood, for my lack of socialization, for not “getting the memo” like everybody else seemed to do, for not really understanding the social norms. For a long time, I thought it was lack of wise parenting. There cer...

Thank you for your replies :) . This is a good starting place. Yeah, I realize self-diagnosis has its pitfalls. I simply don’t have $1000 lying around to spend on an official diagnosis :? Especially because a label won’t really change anything for me, besides giving me insight. Don’t get me wrong. I...

I watched the pilot. It was … okay.
I didn’t hate it or anything, but it’s not anybodys “best effort”, no hook or interesting new premise.
It’s based on nostalgia

No thanks. I was going through infertility treatments
I did eventually get pregnant, though

Obscure, intense interests. Difficulties with socializing as a child (had friends but not “first picked”). Belief I was born in the wrong century. Stomachaches.

Learned to fit in better as I got older, but the disconnected feeling persisted. I was always the “last to know”.

I’m going to venture an unpopular opinion. It depends on what’s at stake. If “doing what society expects” is reading that popular book or trying out that new restaurant, you might find you like it. If it’s making new friends, you might find people who you find mutually enjoyable and beneficial. But ...

I can only answer for myself, but for me it would have been disastrous. If I’d been provided with an escape from real life interactions, I would have taken it so fast. But I was forced to push through my severe social anxiety and learn to relate to people in real life. But like I said, that’s just m...

So I’ve been doing a life review and looking over my childhood, I had so many traits of both autism and add/adhd. Both run in my family, so I’m familiar with both, but I’m more used to the type of ASD that is so severe as to preclude holding down a job. I never rose to the level of getting a diagnos...
