What a wonderful discussion. I've participated in in-person groups from time to time called "Death Cafes" - opportunities for any and all people without a vested interest in selling something to come together for a couple of hours over coffee and cake and talk about ... death. Not bereavem... |

I don't feel so bad now, because I re-connected with my inner kaleidoscope of golden warm light. Team lunch today. Changed things around to be there. Personal interactions are good and valuable, and I learn so much from informal interactions that I would never have otherwise. HOWEVER. One of the way... |

... we all make society together and we take care of each other ... You have this right here. This is what the world needs. Find a little slice of love, and serve it up. Locate a beam of sunshine from within. Smile at yourself, and others. I say this having done exactly that this evening when crash... |

Only in the same way that, when I was a little boy, it was fashionable for little boys to call anybody who was different in any way a 'spastic', whether they had cerebral palsy or not. I am actually autistic. I can definitely identify with this experience. Imagine being singled out for this in part... |

Being vulnerable only makes people notice how unrelatable I truly am. I don’t do a lot of relatable things going for me like a 9-5 job. I used to volunteer being a 'buddy' with a bed-bound youngster. I've known several physically constrained people in situations that really restricted them. Every s... |

Hello everyone, A really wonderful trend that has started happening in the past few years in my experience generally has been much more in the way of relatively positive mentions of autism. In that connection I wonder if anyone has anything they would like to share about this article which only appe... |

To add to the many sensible suggestions already made ... I find it helps (and am currently working on this!) to reduce one's barriers and make oneself vulnerable. People tend to get on better when they perceive something to connect to / something that is relatable. As well as of course contexts and ... |

For me, there's no 'normal' - there is only 'different'. I simply don't wish to think or talk in terms of autistic vs neurotypical, though I understand well that categorisation like this can help us understand broad trends. Applied to myself there are certain tasks or processes I manage well. There ... |

Thank you. I am glad you are here.
I've just finished reading your blog featured article "Hidden Autism" - very relatable, and one of very few that mentions proprioception. Keep writing! |

Welcome to WP! I hope you like it here. And I agree that a really late diagnosis (mine was at age 64) is more about understanding than it is about doing anything. However, I've been trying to get some use out of these: □ " HEALTHCARE TOOLKIT: Patient Centered Care Tools for Autistic Adults &q... |

Not that rare any more, and one reason to stay with my current employers. New in the past year or two. Before then was much more lip service and I felt I had to watch it. |

Just a quick intro post. I was diagnosed through a work-sponsored scheme last August after prevaricating for five+ years because I didn't like the idea of being labelled or pigeon-holed, and because work up to that point had been pretty hostile to the idea. Needless to say it's a night and day trans... |
