I completely agree with you AlsMom but I started this thread because people do get offended and ironically get rude back. I bumped it back up because once again, some parent told off an Aspie because they had no kids. Yes, I know, I read it. It's just amazing to me that a person / parent of an AS p... |

Gotcha. I understand the responce a little better, now. But Alex has always been behind in developing. A VERY late bloomer. He still in the very giggley (sp?) stage about girls. Physically he's 18, but, if I could put an age on his overall behavior - I'd say around 11. He's quite sheltered in many r... |

You sleep with your 18 year old son? Now, I'm really confused. Also, what does he think about home study with his mom at the age of 18? I'm missing something here. It sounds like he needs help outside of his mother's care and and some chicks. He sounds very illl, and you are not going to make him b... |

Disclaimers and warning statements - this is begining to sound like the coffee cups that warn "caution: contents may be hot". This IS a forum on/about/for/by Aspergers and other neuro conditions. It's not for the faint of heart. Parents shouldn't expect warm fuzzies, "NT" parents should welcome the ... |

Just re-visited your post gbollard - and forgot to mention.... Alex is currently on independent study from school - I'm his new teacher. We work for exactly two hours a day. Period. We are trying to break this pattern now. I love that he's so dedicated, but we are going to force him to learn moderat... |

Oh, Gavin, I'm so sorry. That is very sad, indeed. But - have no fear on this end. Our family teases and laughs with Alex like there is no tomorrow. Maybe it was intuitive on our part - like it was for you to try to "corrupt" your friend. I myself lost a cousin - who was for me, my brother, at the t... |

"ANyway, I digress. SO yes, there are people with bad OCD that have "bad thoughts" as a manifestation of their OCD such as "if I leave this room I will kill someone", or "I will cut my hands off if I go in the kitchen" for example. The person is extremely unlikely to act on those thoughts, but there... |

7 Hours of homework is - wrong, dangerous and anti-social. Don't I know it! There are other ways to learn - the world should be your university. Watch TV, fiction and non-fiction, read books, play games, socialize with people, dream, play sports. He's always been wild about sports statistics - And ... |

[ quote="equinn"]"He did homework for 7 hours every night...." What do you mean by this? Is this a typo? 7 hours of homework each night sounds extremely excessive. I wonder if he's having a nervous break down? What child could endure such mental exhaustion? Did he want to do this? Did you encourage ... |

After a six hour struggle to get dressed yesterday - I threw in the towel. Packed him up to head off to the emergency room. On the way in, I thought, give the county psych office one more shot - I was and am very concerned that bringing him into a clinical hospital environment would scare the crap o... |

Wow - thanks to all of you. Your responses remind me of all the good things I love about my son. Very thoughtfull, very generous. I'll try to hit on some of your responses. It WAS a county Psychiatrist who prescribed the Lexapro - Upon my announcement that Al has not only not improved, but worsened,... |

No head trauma, I'm quite sure - just asked him. It's funny you mention a high tolerance for pain - NOT this kid - he is by far and away the worlds BIGGEST hypochondriac! And, he's pretty convinced that the voices aren't his own, although his explanation of this is that the voices must belong to som... |

Hi - I'm new. My son was diag w/aspergers and non-verbal learning disorder at 9 y.o. He's been given extra time to do his homework and tests as his IEP for years. He wasn't particularly interested in people, esp. kids his own age, but conversed well when spoken to. He did homework for 7 hours every ... |
