My wife with AS seems to be sensitive to just about everything--not just food but also medication (about the only thing that doesn't cause her to go haywire is ibuprofen), any kind of environmental trigger (we had to move because of our neighbor's smoke), A/C units that aren't perfectly clean, you n...

Here to explore a theory. My wife with AS is having some interesting issues. She deals with on and off again fears that the food she is eating is poisoned. (She probably has some intolerances that just haven’t been explored yet, as I eat most of the same food she does and I feel completely fine. I k...

Oh it definitely can be linked with autism, I've dealt with psychosis multiple times, I'm not schizophrenic either. Fun stuff THANK YOU for the confirmation!! I am so tired of my mom thinking my wife, who has autism, is schizophrenic! She doesn't meet the DSM criteria for it but does meet all the A...

My wife got off a similar med last year around the time we realized she had AS and didn't need a med for a different condition. The withdraw was TOUGH. She didn't sleep correctly for a few weeks, had some weird mood swings, and then had to, in her words, figure out how to find "real happiness&q...

Having 2 psychotic episodes doesn't mean you are Schizophrenic. You could have Brief Psychotic Disorder, Schizophreniform disorder, or some other mental disorder than can produce psychotic symptoms-depression and bipolar disorder can do this. With Schizophrenia you are in a psychotic state for long...

Hoping someone can help me out here... My wife (diagnosed with AS at 33) had a spinal tap for no discernible reason in 2008. Her mother refuses to tell her why this test was performed, refuses to speak to her at all about it, and the doctor who performed it is far in the rear view mirror (I'm not ev...

To borrow a term from a particular game show, I need some advice and am hoping there's some insight out there for us... My wife (who has AS) is a licensed cosmetologist. She's amazing at what she does with cutting hair. She has a knack of knowing exactly what to cut if someone needs advice, too. Yea...

Ahh, tryptophan. It's one I'm trying to encourage her to use/eat more of since I know her serotonin is low as per the research I've done. She won't use meds due to bad past experiences (I don't blame her one bit!) but is 100% open to any and all vitamins/supplements. I know that just having people b...

My wife (who has AS) dreamed she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis last night and it spiraled her this morning. How can I be more of a support for her after a vivid nightmare? (To be fair I had a weird dream myself that I was back in middle school, but that was kind of fun; I actually liked midd...

This could very well work. I think she has a LOT of misconceptions about what it means to be pregnant, how a pregnancy works, how to get support, etc. As I've mentioned before we need something completely out of the hospital system. A natural class just could work, as she has mentioned wanting a hom...

It's good to have confirmation that autism and some psychosis symptoms can co-exist here without any other diagnosis. I did read this in a book a few weeks ago; I've been doing research on AS like it's my job to help me with my marriage to someone with AS. It's good to see this seconded here, especi...

OP, can your sig. other make her own smoothies? she could add some helpful supplements [such as taurine, theanine, b-vitamins/minerals] to them? can she substitute xylitol for the normal sugar, it would be far better for her and esp. her teeth. She can and got into the habit of doing it, but was ad...

Let me explain the pregnancy delusion thing a little more...I almost feel like this should take on its own topic, but I'll keep it here for now I guess. She has always wanted to be a mom. However, her own mother kept telling her that "she'll never get pregnant" every time someone showed up...
