I was 4 when diagnosed, which apparently is young. My older brother had been diagnosed long before, so our mother was already aware of the possibility I would fall somewhere on the spectrum.

Diseases; it's the only one that's remained consistently. I saw a Frontline documentary about superbugs when I was a small child and that passion has been around since. For a while my dreams of becoming an infectious disease doctor were crushed.

I get an attendance award every year, school is my life by default. I used to be hypervigilant about appearing "regular". Nowadays, I will crouch down and search for bugs in the grass if I damn want to. Curiosity should not be an inherently childish thing, it is how we learn new things and discover new interests.

I loved organising coins by date, particularly pennies since they're so easy to accumulate. I'd stack them, or lay them out like a bar graph for each year. Then I'd get bored of them, dump them into a container, and organise them again shortly thereafter.
