I still flap away; if anything I do it more vigourosly than I used to when I was younger, but now I only tend to do it when I'm on my own. I have set 'routines' which I follow; sometimes hitting my left hand with the fingers on my right hand, or flicking my fingers against my leg, or go for a full o...

Belfast, I can relate to your post. People are often amazed at my patience, because my hobby (miniature painting) can take me 3 months to paint a single piece, and I'll spend hours at a time doing it..but I lose my temper, whilst driving, with other people on the road before I've even reversed out t...

Still living at home in my early 30s. The cost of getting a place on my own is one reason, but sometimes I think I use that as an excuse; because I know that if I got a house of my own, I would spend all my time on my own. Now, a large part of me would like that a lot, and even at home I effectively...

My family also think my reactions to what happens to others is rather cold and 'sick'. I do have to stop myself laughing at other people's misfortunes in real life, or indeed death and destruction on the news. I put some of it down to the 'honesty' I feel AS gives me : why would I care if 100 strang...

I had a similar dilema ; in the end I just said I had a regular hospital appointment to attend (which was technically correct as it was in a hospital). Luckily for me, my boss was not the kind of bloke who asked any more questions, so I was fortunate. I don't think you need to tell your boss exactly...

As with all 'disabilities', the severity of its effect varies from person to person. Personally I do not regard myself as 'disabled' by AS, just 'disadvantaged' in certain circumstances. Plus as mentioned by others, there are some negative connotations with the word disabled, especially in the workp...

I find it hard to say a great deal in some conversations, particularly social situations, because I'm very open and honest, I've learned that sometimes you need to think about who you are talking to and the implications of saying everything that's going through your head. I do a little mental checkl...

I often feel sort of 'blind' when looking for something in a general location..then someone else will come in and take 1 second and see it! I have a similar problem if someone 'helps' me by getting something out of a drawer etc ready for me to use; I end up not seeing the item, and searching for it ...

I'm starting to get better with food, but I'm still what would be called a fussy eater : if we have a work team outing, the first thought everyone has 'is will Dan eat there?' I still remember having my face pushed into my dinner by my exasperated father as I sat there picking at food whilst everyon...

Hello back to you all, thanks for the warm welcome. Sorry it's taken me a while to reply. Tequila, I'm a Worcestershire boy. And gbollard, I chose that picture partly because I do love Sid James' characters in all the Carry On films (not sure about him in real life) plus that picture was from a Chri...

Greetings folks, I've been lurking on this excellent forum for a number of months, but like most things in life, it takes me a while to take the plunge and give it a go! I'm in my early 30's now, and was diagnosed with Aspergers a couple of years ago. I function pretty well in the big wide world, al...
