I wish I knew how to vote. I am a happy person, but it's neither because I'm autistic nor unrelated to being autistic. (As in, being autistic probably affects it, but it's not likely the cause of it.) |

There is no exact difference. That. Or there may be an exact difference, but as like as not it's one of those things that doesn't have an equivalent outside of the language of specialists. One of those things that seems tiny and insignificant but shows up on specialized testing, only to create much... |

You're not the only one who'd take a cure, you're just probably the only one who's said so on this thread. These threads pop up from time to time and a lot of people are probably sick of them. I can't speak for anyone else, but my reason for not wanting a cure has nothing to do with fear, or with th... |

it is necessary ONLY BECAUSE of the inadequacy of the way neurotypical people are made that they will make economically irrational decisions to fulfill their psychological needs. Oh. I get it now. This is an aspie pride, super human next step in evolution thing. It'd be nice if people didn't equate... |

Yes. It does actually make sense because even good changes disrupt the routines and situations that we're familiar with and able to deal with easily. It's known even among nonautistic people that for instance they get stressed as much about going on a fun vacation as about anything negative. |

I have heard that people with AS do really well on Ativan, even children. However, I took it and it made me act drunk. Like really drunk. That's what other people have said anyway, I have never been drunk so I don't know, but other people said that I looked like I was drunk. I got very nauseous and... |

I feel bombarded by other people's feelings. Intensely. Sometimes I can't even tell if something is from me or someone else. And I definitely pick up on room-wide tension. I asked a researcher once about whether parents she talked to had noticed their autistic children picking up on the slightest te... |

Wow the thing about asking people questions about themselves and letting them talk... my mom is a master of that. There's this person who drives the wheelchair vans who is known for being mean and gossiping about confidential information about clients. And my mom was here for a month. And she immedi... |

I used to have an absolutely amazing memory as a child, but these days, it's just terrible, especially my short-term memory. Does anyone here have the same problem? My brother lost his eidetic memory in adolescence and his doctor said that's common. I wonder if that goes for other kinds of memory t... |

Highly conspicuous. Even if people don't know what autism looks like (or what specifically I have), they react very obviously knowing I'm different. Even when I was little, the very first thing I remember a stranger saying to my mother was "What's wrong with your daughter?" Throughout school kid... |

Frankly it's hard to tell if a lot of autistic traits, even some of the supposedly "core" ones, are always due to wiring, or if experience (and living in a world not designed for us) contributes to some of them. It's probably impossible to tell that because I don't expect the world to become so much... |

It happened a long time ago, in a place I don't live anymore... and patient advocacy groups were doing everything we could, we just weren't strong enough to take them on. They hated letting us in to check on the people who were locked up there, and they didn't listen to us otherwise. The other local... |

Interesting. (Not judging you, just comparing and being curious.) I don't usually envy those succeeding at college or work. And when I do... it's usually because something has poisoned my mind with those common ideas that a person who does not work is worthless. Or because I'm having a conversation ... |

Also if they call the police, make sure to be super calm, as calm as a person can possibly be. And just sit calmly and tell the police they were called for no reason. You did nothing at all wrong. That you take care of yourself, that you don't harm anyone at all, so the police cannot take you away.... |

Disclaimer: I said I would try to be sure to say things in a way where it's clear I'm not attacking him. And I meant that. I'm not good at figuring out how to tell when my words look hostile and when they don't, so I'm just saying up front: I'm not trying to attack anyone (not even the person who re... |
