It was Mother's Day in the UK yesterday and my son's class at school all made their mum a card. He is nine. I asked my son if most of the kids drew flowers for their mum. He said yes. What did I get on my card? Not flowers but me, good 'ole Mum, drawn as a Bin Weevil!! (cartoon character and one of ...

Quick question, how do I help my 9 yr old to recognise the difference between children laughing with him, rather than at him. Also he has a tendency to persist with a joke when it's beyond funny...if he still finds the joke/ action funny he'll continue doing it, even if others find it annoying....he...

For additional clarification, he has an assistant on 3 days out of 5. He struggles on the two other days, both emotionally and academically. So, we are considering trying to get his support up to 5 days. However the schools approach is to try and encourage his independence on the days without his on...

I would be grateful of your thoughts on the following, regarding my 9 year old aspie son. 1. Son does well at school in the topics that interest him but switches off or struggles to engage in subjects that are boring or pointless to him. Outside of school I would never make him do something he hated...

My son - almost 9 yrs old - is starting to find school harder. The expectations for more mature behaviour, self control and independent work are a struggle for him. He is becoming more ever more reliant on his TA to keep on task and has more worries. He finds the classroom too chaotic and loud (he k...

Thanks for your input. My son is 8. We have coping strategies for when he is at home...he takes himself to his room where he has a 'sensory' drawer of his favourite items and books. It's when we are out in public that it's practically impossible to calm him down. Thanks for the tip about How Does Yo...

We never go to the Park after school on a Monday as my kids have cub scouts, so we have to go home for an early dinner etc. My kids know this routine. Yesterday, as we were leaving school, two of my son's friends asked if we were going to the park. I said no. Cue major meltdown from my son who wante...

Hi Swimmingfish. Your post struck a big chord with me. In fact it almost made me laugh out loud. When my husband realises he has really hurt my feelings, he also cleans. We had a row the other day and he vacuumed the whole house! The more upset I am the more practical stuff he does to show me his is...

Hi there, I have a 7yr old son with aspergers, but I am wondering whether my husband might be also on the spectrum? My husband is a very lovely person, and is very helpful and practical around the house. However, we have an issue which constantly rears its head. He seems unable to display any affect...

I would like to know whether any parents here (especially UK based who understand our system of Statements) have been able to secure Speech and Language Therapy for their child with aspergers. I am trying to secure Speech and Language Therapy as part of my son's (6yrs old) statement. The SALT are tr...

His first obsession was washing machines. Totally obsessed. He knew every make and model. We used to go to the electrical store for a treat, he would pace up and down looking at all the machines. Now it is Super Mario. He would play for hours on the wii and ds. He also draws the most amazing picture...
