I'm wondering if AS causes the extreme development of one skill set to the detriment of another, which seems to be the case, as I'm not hearing of many well-rounded people.
(Wish I could comment on this thread more, I'm currently very busy. Will try and elaborate on this later.) |

I was curious as to how many of you feel about the "math wiz" stereotype associated with Asperger's syndrome, as according to my research and personal observations it appears to largely be a myth. There are individuals with Asperger's that are very good at math, no doubt about that, but being good a... |

Yeah, high school was hellish for me as well, and possibly worsened by the fact I didn't have a single friend (aside from my brother) from my sophomore to my senior year, essentially a non-entity. Although, in retrospect I guess it wasn't such a bad thing as the friends I did make in my initial year... |

I say thank you way too much and when it is not an appropriate response. For example I will sometimes say thank you when I mean to say good bye or your welcome. I do that a lot, or I'll put a prolonged "orrr" at the end of a sentence, for example: "Do you want me to go upstairs orrr....?" Come to t... |

Now, I'm not officially diagnosed or anything, but I am noting some striking similarities between how I act and feel in general and the classic DSM IV-TR diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome as well as many of the personal accounts of the good members of the forum. However, there are some issues that I ... |

Yeah, I do it quite often. Usually any reflective surface that catches my attention will cause me to at least give a good glance at it and see how I look, though it's not really narcissism. I've been doing it since I was a small child, as well. |

People constantly accuse me of scowling, even when I'm thinking of smiling. Does anyone else have that total disconnect between thought and facial expression? ...Wait, is that one of the symptoms of AS? Same problem here, people keep asking me if I'm angry or upset every other day. I do have a prob... |

Great game, many fond memories of 8-12 hours sessions against my brother and/or the AI on fan-made maps. Great modding community for that game, some of the more recent mods push the unit cap into the thousands. Recent remake through a free-ware game called Spring as well, just google TA:Spring and i... |

I'm glad that I wasn't the only person who hated Shakespeare back in high school. Such Byzantine trite should be outlawed with extreme prejudice. I mean, I literally had no idea what was being said, nevermind the message that is supposedly conveyed to the audience. Additionally, I had a terrible tim... |

Ayn Rand seems like a definite miss to me, her tendencies and attitudes towards others bordered on the sociopathic. AS may have subdued empathy in how it is shown, but it is most certainly felt in many individuals and it is not anti-social in any way, shape, or form. |
