I know that I'm still a newbie and probably shouldn't just jump into a political debate thread, but politics is sort of my thing... Really, the problems with democracy are threefold: 1) "True" democracy is extraordinarily difficult, probably impossible, on a national scale. As a population gets larg...

I just saw "The Mist"

It wasn't that good, but I did laugh at the ending (which sort of made me feel like a bad person).

In New Zealand, we have a law that states that when a person reaches the age of 18, ANY medical/psychological treatments can be kept hidden from parents if requested. I'm not sure if it's the same where you live...but maybe? The law is the same, but it's not strictly a legal issue in my case. My ph...

I had interests as a child, but after the first one I learned to hide them because I knew they were weird. As I got older their durations became shorter, and they're now so transient as to be useless. Of course, this is only in the stereotypical "Oh wow I love <topic/thing>!" sense. Now I've develop...

If it gets to the point where they mention schizoid PD, I'll probably take that opportunity to mention my self-diagnosis. As for seeing a specialist, it's not really an option. It would be impossible for me to specifically see an autism specialist (or even look for one) without my parents knowing, w...

It's been amazing for me to discover that everything is so neatly explainable. All of my little differences and things I didn't get used to upset me a lot, so there's a lot of relief now. I'm also kind of mad at myself because I knew of AS years ago but only knew of it in the stereotypical way: if s...

I have to say I'm almost entirely certain I have AS. The problem is that I feel uncomfortable saying that. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that I'd be met with derision if I claimed to be an Aspie without a professional diagnosis. I'm not even comfortable posting my experiences in the myriad "Does an...

After a few months of being self-diagnosed, I've got an appointment to see a nearby therapist in two months. I've got a few questions/concerns. First off, I just want to clear the air and say that I'm mad at my GP. I specifically said I wanted a psychiatrist. I don't know whether or not I said this ...

And let me be the first to welcome you to the "Canadians who recently read about AS and are now convinced that they have it and are seeking a diagnosis while lurking on WP" club.

Yeah, there aren't many of us...

I want to know if this is just a "me thing" or if it's a possible "Aspie thing." For a lot of forum threads, especially those with multiple pages, I like to start at the end and read backwards. Often I'll end up even reading long posts from bottom to top, one paragraph at a time. Somehow it all seem...

Since you mentioned having a parent who tends to go into denial, I have to ask... How did you work up the courage to "come out" about your AS theory? More importantly, how did you convince him to take part in the process of speaking to your psych? Personally, I'd be kind of afraid to let my parents ...

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone! I forgot to mention I took that Aspie quiz thing. My neurodiverse score was 146 of 200, while neurotypical was 59 of 200. I could very likely get diagnoses of social phobia, Asperger's, and OCD apparently. Still, I'm not inclined to put too much stock in online...

Hi! So, like the title says, I think I might be an Aspie. I'll be seeing my GP soon for a referral to a psych, but I'm not going to mention why. I'm already on anti-depressants so asking for a referral won't seem weird at all. I had originally self-diagnosed myself with schizoid personality disorder...
