Is the school overstepping their bounds requesting updates of medication and updating diagnosis? Just a thought.

I don't have any specific advice for you, but wanted to point out that there are a lot of services between homeschooling and mainstreaming. Those are both extremes and it doesn't have to be one or the other ( If your child qualifies for special education) Good luck. It's a big decision.

As a psychologist I have tested children with autism on an IQ test and the score indicated that they were also Mentally ret*d. However, in some of those situations, I would not give a dual diagnosis because I felt that the IQ score was not valid because those with Autism interpret the world so diffe...

There are a lot of ignorant people who assume that anyone with a disability is "ret*d." They use it as a general term. I think it makes them sound ignorant and is more degrading to them than to the person they say it to. I'm sure it's hurtful though.

It sounds like he doesn't have the words to express his frustration, or know how to use his words well when he's upset, so it's escalating. Can you figure out if there is something that occurs prior to the meltdowns, or if there is some underlying issue that could be upseting him?

It should not be the parents job to come up with services or supports. It's the school's responsibility, those who are familiar with the services they offer and are supposed to be "experts". I think it is usually best to let the school give you their plan first, then take the IEP home to review it, ...

It would be a good idea to call a meeting ASAP with school people and the consultant or at least the reports to try to set up the best possible environment for success.

Having a formal diagnosis might be very helpful, especially if he could get an IEP and have some accommodations to help alleviate this.

Legally, there is a process that schools must go through when identifying ED. If the school did not use these federal guidelines then a complaint is in order. It's all outlined here. http://www.schoolpsychologistfiles.com/EmDisability.html Bottom line: the emotional problems have to have occurred ov...

then have sex

well, that's another option... 8O

If that doesn't work, try the IEP!

If he has an IEP, work on getting class notes put into the IEP. It's done all the time. If he does not have an IEP, you might want to talk to someone about it. Here's info about the special education and evaluation process for parents:

It would be good to get a therapist to help him more appropriately deal with his feelings of anger. Yes, I would find someone who works with AS children. While this may or may not be due to his Asperger's, it will definitely play a role in it. By the way, even if there was likely no real intent for ...

A person does not automatically receive services with a diagnosis. Usually, they will, but there is still a process that occurs. For a student to recieve special education a school has to determine if there is a disability (that part has been done already) and then the school has to determine if the...

Does he have an IEP? If so, just ask the case manager about an OT evaluation. I'm sure the school is already providing OT for certain students.
