It means to think creatively or in a fresh way. "The box" is actually patterns or traditions that people do because they've always done it. Thinking outside of that "box" means to leave the old patterns behind and try to come up with something new.

The worst for me is "What's up?" This humorous to me. I keep typing this, but my son was just diagnosed with Aspergers this week. My 12 year old son was just diagnosed with Aspergers. Reading the literature and information on it is like reading a biography someone wrote about him.
