Being a parent to my aspie son is amazing. At times it can be very hard work & you'd need the patience of a saint but overall its so rewarding. I have to put lots more time & energy in but what I get back is soooooooo worth it. Sometimes we have a little world of our own & its like no-on...

DW_a mom, you are right its good to know kids want to say hi to our kids & I’m almost giving up on my son saying hi back too. I think that is a good idea explaining to the other kids some of your son’s quirks. I will talk to the teacher whether we should do the same because some of his classmate...

annotated_alice I'm kind've similar to yourself. Most of my probs were in school as a child - I seem to have grown out of them or just able to manage so much better now. I was very different at home than in school as a child. I had lots of anxiety in school as a child & thought everyone must fee...

My son (5.5yrs) is very fussy about his food. He eats things one at a time also. If he's having chicken nuggets he will eat all the crumb off first & then eat the chicken. He hates if even a tiny bit of the chicken comes off when he eats the crumb off. He also eats very slowly. He more or less h...

DW_a_mom I know god help anyone who breaks his rules  . We had another incident this morning as I dropped him to school. We were walking into school & his classmate passed him & said Hi Cian. My little fella didn't even say back. As usual I prompt him to say Hello back (which he did). ...

How about wording it a bit different - I know here some (ok maybe a lot :( ) think special needs = stupid or really negative. I usually say my son has additional needs or different needs & will use this to explain to him when he's older. I already tell him (he's 5 & a half) that his brain wo...

My son does this the whole time - he used to do it with his Thomas the Tank Engines. He knew every name, how many wheels, size funnel, colour, number etc of each engine. Come to think of it I still know most of that myself!!
