I just looked at the article (I'd read it before, but I didn't remember this part with too much detail). They said that the people who are d***s are just the ones who are claiming that they have AS. |

Well, I was asked not to sub at a particular school any longer because the other teachers said I had "no personality" and didn't talk enough to them. Not directly discrimination against AS (they didn't know I had it) but clearly a reaction to the symptoms of it. I had my brother tell me that AS is ... |

Not for the paper but I still have to make a PowerPoint presentation. Thanks!
I got 47/50 on the paper, not including the extra five points for going to class the day we got it back. |

Actually 10 members of their board of directors have children on the spectrum, which provides a great deal of insight into the struggles of individuals with autism spectrum disorders. While I would agree that more board members would be helpful, it does not appear that easy to recruit members that ... |

The reason I originally posted this in the Activism section was that I feel there is a lot of anger expressed by people who post in that area. This scene explains that anger is ineffective. Also, in the movie Gandhi , Gandhi states that he want's the British to leave India as friends. His method to ... |

This is a short clip from Invictus (great film). I'd also recommend watching Gandhi. It's really long, but I think a lot of people on this forum would benefit from seeing how Gandhi led the liberation of the Indian People.

Since the organisation wants to end the suffering associated with autism, I'd recommend getting more people on the spectrum involved in the board of directors or something high up like that because it is impossible to fully understand the suffering associated with being on the autism spectrum withou... |

If the statement is aimed at individuals on the spectrum, I'd recommend simply changing "finding a cure for autism" to "ending the suffering of individuals on the autism spectrum" or something like that. I know one of the signs of Asperger's (which I can personally validate) is taking everything lit... |

The third point Feralucce made was about how AS state's in their mission statement that they want to "cure" autism. Many of us on the spectrum don't want that, in fact in one of Temple Grandin's books she says that "if the genetic factors that cause autism were eliminated from the human race, we wou... |

Hello all This summer I'm taking a class called Stereotyping and Prejudice. I have to write a paper/give a presentation on "curing" a bias against a particular group. I have decided to write said paper on bias against people on the autism spectrum. I would really appreciate it if some of you could g... |

In the analogy I was using I was trying to talk about how Autism Speaks is an advocacy group that doesn't let the people it claims to advocate for in the organisation to advocate for themselves. Sorry about the confusion. However, regardless of what the analogy was, it is not the point I was trying ... |

When I used that analogy, I wasn't trying to imply that being black makes people unable to do things, it absolutely doesn't. I'm sorry if it came across that way. I was referring to how Autism Speaks doesn't really seem to care what we on the autism spectrum think, they just want to "cure" us. |

I know I haven't been on here in a long time, but I have been doing a lot of deep thinking. While the organisation Autism Speaks is generally disliked amongst the autistic community, we do have to remember that even though they're doing it in a misguided way, they are trying to help us. I would desc... |
