Yes I've had 2 full on burnout/breakdowns and a fair few smaller ones. The last was at 31 and it's taken me 8 years to get back on track. I don't want to talk about what happened during the breakdowns but what you can do to help repair yourself from my experiences only - sorry if it doesn't apply to...

Noticed a number of mentions of Risperidone (Risperidol). I've just come off this after 10 days (had been upped to 2mg a day after 1 week) because it caused a major anxiety attack. I spent last Saturday night in Casualty with a heart rate 150+ and the docs had no idea what was causing it. Finally, a...

Wavefreak, do you mean you have never aspired to be like someone because you have no concept of what it is to be them? If so, then that's a fair assessment for me too; however, we animals are more pragmatic than that, we may not consciously understand but that doesn't stop us replicating someone els...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: What is systemization?

How does systemization exactly work? How can you fix something without knowing how it works? This is total conjecture from me, but perhaps it might offer an explanation. If you consider function the macro environment (of any system) and mechanics as the micro environment; dysrationalia would be the...

Moog that's sort of what I'm trying to convey. The other side to this is the view of originality. How original are you? Are your gestures, mannerisms, speech, language etc all entirely original or have they been derived from elsewhere? Has someone, or a combination of people, done and said everythin...

You're older than me. I had to ask because different life experiences do dictate certain roles; jobs, relationships etc mean you find yourself having to be something that perhaps you're not, or does not come naturally. There have been pressures on me to perform in a certain way, I was a school teach...

I don't know how old you are or what your experiences have been but there always comes a point where you are expected to play the role of something rather alien to you. Role models aren't necessarily someone you aspire to be but can be a far more pragmatic thing. I'm terrible at socialising, so I ob...

- Inexplicable social exhaustion - Superficiality [or affectation] of interactions (or alternatively, a complete withdrawal of interaction) - Regular 'personality clashes' which are based on misunderstandings over intent (which can be caused by blunt/directness and eventually manifests itself as def...

To the OP, I get you in the most fundamental way. I am 36 (just dx AS) and have been faking so hard that: 1. I did not know I was faking, just knew it was really hard work being me. 2. I still have no clue who I am, but that doesn't bother me so much anymore 3. I faked so hard, that I faked myself ...

I've never had an issue with anger as such; being a very big man I realised that when I lose my temper I can do serious damage (something I'd rather not do unless absolutely necessary!). I'm 32 now and I simply never feel/get angry. Bizarrely the first question I was asked when I initially sought he...

Hi there, I was told to read this post by my husband (this is his login), he said it would make me laugh and he was not wrong! You and your hubby and me and mine are in an almost identical situation (minus the kids). Hubby has also just recently been diagnosed as Asperger's (last October I think it ...

I've been a secondary school teacher (I think the US equivalent is High School) in the UK for 5 years, teaching Maths, IT, Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) and Business Studies.

I'm a qualified Physics teacher.

EDIT: The ages of the kids I teach are 11-18.

First of all, many thanks for the replies, they've been really appreciated. I'm very taken aback by what has been said here. I'm finding it difficult to express the frustration of being told I have Asperger's, only to have another person with decidedly different views attempt to change the diagnosis...

p.s. Please don't call it a disease. (Or illness etc). It isn't. Sorry I've heard it described in those terms, I certainly didn't mean any offence. I'm quite adamant it's not schizophrenia due to the rationality of my thought, I'm not delusional in the slightest, if anything I can be far too object...
