We are moving to Qatar; I was hesitant to name the place for fear of someone figuring out who I am but then realized it doesn't matter. If I ask my son to go with me to get ice cream or we have a family activity he is pretty cooperative, so hopefully that bodes well for his underlying disposition. W...

That is a hilarious story and helpful advice. It's funny how they are all so different. I like your laptop/reward suggestion.

Well, he alternates between shooting layups, then returning to hibernation. I'll encourage him to invite some friends over--that tends to bring him out of his shell a little. He is usually exhausted afterwards.

He told me he's stressed about it, but also wants to go.

All of the schools have huge waiting lists, so he may not get into a school right away.

Some context: Our family has decided to move overseas, to the UAE for 2-3 years. My son is thirteen and diagnosed with Asperger's. I perceive him as fairly high functioning. Since school got out he has been in his room, under the covers, reading fan fiction on his laptop, watching game videos and ch...

My wife has low grade depression which often expresses itself as anger, criticism, overreacting, and anxiety. I have a hard time reading her as it is but when it gets bad I feel like I am in an experiment where electric shocks are randomly administered and am trying to be less sensitive to it, as op...

We took a box of nut bars to school for him and today he ate six of them. He said he felt dizzy and had to miss his ballroom dance lesson. He is bummed about not having his computer so he went to sleep at 8 pm. We are taking him to the doctor on Monday and then to a specialist about the constant hun...

Thread drift, but the more I think about it the more I think that many of his meltdowns are related to him getting absorbed in something and not eating until his blood sugar crashes. He is 12 and complains about being always hungry, often an hour after eating.

Trios and Hot Wheels. He wants a Nintendo DS because big brother just got one for his birthday but I don't know about that. Too bad those iPods are so expensive because what he'd really like is something he could play Angry Birds on 24-7.

He's being grounded off the computer and ipod touch for: 1. Not doing any classwork for an entire term 2. Intentionally sabotaging his ballroom dance lessons 3. Arguing for eternity when asked to do the simplest of chores And that's just what I can think of. I will probably pull him from school for ...

I thought I had posted about my son melting down at school and not participating. I came back to look for responses and couldn't find the note, but when I searched my past posts I realized that I have been posting essentially the same note for the past 3-4 years, so this site is a journal of sorts. ...

Thanks for all of the good advice. I apologize for not responding sooner, I thought I had email alerts set up and actually didn't, complicated by the fact that email alerts are going to a secondary email address because I'm not ready to "come out" yet. It's also surprising how many people have no id...

Hi, I have posted here in the past regarding my son, who is ten and has Asperger's. I recently took an online test (Leif Ekblad's 160 question test at http://www.rdos.net/eng/Aspie-quiz.php) and scored pretty high. I could have been unconsciously selecting for Asperger's, but the questions in the te...

You may have some good social skills but may have trouble with social perception and miss signals from people. In essense you know a lot of the rules but are missing the input that lets you know when to use which rule...or not. Good Luck! Good call. I have always had trouble telling when people are...
