I couldn't agree more. Even though Christianity is Judaism 2.0 with a compassion upgrade, it still leaves a lot to be desired. And never attained, at least not without guilt attached.

Your post is long but it's not boring. If you find that the putdowns you endure are too much to take and they're a constant rather than something that flares up on occasion, you might consider talking to your mother and family about how you feel. Perhaps you've already done this, or they're not into...

onestepbeyond has a point, though it's obviously a sore spot for you. It's unfair to collectively slag women from an entire region of the earth. I imagine you're turned off by Middle Eastern women due to a sort of guilt by association; you've had negative experiences with some of them, and when peop...

I believe you're right that your rigid Christian Baptist upbringing has helped you to react to people in socially acceptable ways; the downside is, naturally, that you might have trouble expressing your emotions when you need to, in ways that aren't destructive. When I was your age, I was still pret...

@Daryl_Bonder I love Nick Drake, am really only familiar with the Bryter Layter album. I'm a bit too lazy too learn his songs as he performed them, partly because of the tunings and I tend to prefer standard when I play guitar. I saw the doc about him on YouTube, in which his mother speaks about him...

@jamieboy I guess Half Japanese counts as outsider music seeing as Jad Fair did an album with Daniel Johnston. Re outsider art: we rented a documentary on Henry Darger a little while ago and that just blew us away! @jakobvirgil Collaborate like over the Internet? Yeah we should do that. I downloaded...

Yeah, I'd call that dark ambient. Great track, great video! :-) I like the way the music and the images sync. I just checked out the SFIAS website and am enjoying what I hear so far, but it's not personally what I would call "outsider" music; it's too competent, not "wrong" enough ha ha. Definitely ...

Cheers! My wife's doing her doctoral dissertation on Jandek guitar tunings. They're fairly intuitive, as you might imagine. His overall artistic output--spoken word, purely instrumental, free-form jamming--is fairly diverse and unique. Some of Daniel Johnston's songs are among my personal favourites...

...my bad. Netiquette isn't one of my strong points, I'm afraid. A belated hi to everyone on the forum. I'm a 47-year-old male guitar teacher living in Toronto who writes what some might refer to as music (drone, experimental, no 4/4 "beat"). My AS traits include: stress in large social gatherings, ...

I sincerely hope my reply to your post isn't too depressing. It's like you've been reading my mind. I've recently become aware of the existence of Executive Dysfunction--and, by extension, that I suffer from it--and have been considering blogging/writing a book about it. I also have similar reservat...

I empathize, for once. :-) My 11-yr-old daughter was diagnosed with AS seven years ago, and when her psychiatrist listed the symptoms, I said to myself, that's my childhood she's talking about. After my suspicions of having AS myself were confirmed when I started therapy, I initially felt a sense of...

@willard Fantastic advice. I couldn't have said it better, and believe it or not, that's not ass-kissing. Even in the relaxed office environment I used to work in, it was still enervating to endure it from day to day. Self-employment makes a huge difference for me because I call the shots and, aside...

Hi dragonfish! You did the right thing getting psychiatric help. Ever since I started therapy last year, I've found it easier to deal with my life issues and to realize my limitations and how to work with them. One of the most frightening things I find with having Aspergers is that you're socially b...

I'd like to thank those who responded as well, it makes perfect sense in my situation. For a long time I was contemplating buying a mobile phone, partly for the calendar function (and partly to boot my ass into the 21st century). I finally made a double leap, going from no cellphone to smartphone, a...
