My son has low functioning autism and has attended special school since the age of four, since his diagnosis seven years ago he has learned to speak, make eye contact and dress himself (including taking off his own socks) although at a much slower pace than most 'average' children. He's also toilet ...

When I started using the internet, I thought it was a word- XD. As in Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. It doesn't bother me. In fact, I like the emote :D

Me too, I thought it was 'ex-dee' and couldn't work out what that meant.

Yeah, but I didn't realise it until after I was diagnosed - my 'best friend' for the past 10 years used me for money, as did my ex partner, both constantly 'borrowing' from me because I was naive enough to trust that I'd get it back...

I was brought up by my dad, he was a fireman when we were young and nowadays he's still at the Fire Brigade but works as a computer tech/IT monkey due to his age. My mum's an alcoholic who manages to hold down a job at Tesco, I had very little contact with her as a child. I would describe my upbring...

I don't know if I can ever be accurate but I do 'diagnose' people that I meet, in the past two years I've met four people who I'm sure are undiagnosed Aspies, weirdly one of them seemed to feel a connection with me that he found uncomfortable - I'd catch him looking at me and when I looked up he'd l...

I don't mind Rain Man so much, but found 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' quite upsetting - parts of the film seem to suggest that families of autistic people secretly want to beat the crap out of them and only tolerate them because they have to.

Janissy has an excellent suggestion there. I have an LFA son and when he is being particularly noisy and repetitive I listen to my ipod to drown him out.

I like learning alone - when I was doing Higher English a couple of years back the tutor was very keen on pairing people up to complete tasks and I found that a nightmare, I worked at a different speed from everyone else and the 'teamwork' element was lost as I'd be hareing ahead then sitting bored ...

/\ /\ Yes, I have a strong aversion to outright lying, but I can omit the truth when I deem this is warranted, and am proficient at obfuscation. I never engage in truth evasion to con people, but am a very private person and rarely divulge info about myself. Yeah, I'm like this too, but if someone ...

Dear LoML I don't know what to say to you, I miss you already. I don't know if you love me or hate me; I don't understand a thing about you, or me, or us. I think you might be out of my life forever and that thought scares me to death. I handle things badly, I've always been this way, I did try to e...

I decided to stop drinking last Summer as I could see that it was causing me problems and making me behave in ways that I wouldn't usually, which scared me. I've not had any alcohol whatsover since the 2nd of August last year. Thing is, I feel much worse for it and the things I would usually 'get th...
