Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I'm genderqueer myself. Transmasculine, to be specific. I'm physically female but my gender is butch. Not a woman, not planning on transitioning, but a kind of other. Transmasculine is my favorite label so far.

Is it easier to "connect", or be around each other versus NT's? For me, it varies just as much as it does with NTs. That said, most of my friends over time have been in that odd gray area of severe geekdom that may or may not start to push the edges of being on the spectrum. I'm not sure if that's ...

What's important in the discussion is your attitude. Even if your daughter isn't very good at picking up social cues, she may understand some of them, or she may absorb the overall "feel" of things (I may not be able to describe it, but I often "catch" the other person's emotional state... strange b...

I could definitely teach them myself ... except they refuse to listen to me ;) Excellent point. I'm an aspie and I've been a lifeguard for several years now, as well as teaching YMCA swim lessons. I've worked with kids with all kinds of special needs, as well as kids without. If you decide to pursu...

I've always felt that both Zach and Bones were aspies, though I don't know quite how intentionally. I've read several articles and interviews that say that the characters' behaviors were influenced by Asperger's, but nothing definitive or specific. I agree that it is important to note differences be...

I use the captioning whenever it's available. I think that it helps because I'm intensely visual and because I have auditory processing difficulties. Even if I turn up the volume, the words and sounds still get garbled in my head, so captions are much more effective for me.

If you're using one with an applicator, I'd suggest the plastic kind over the cardboard kind if you have difficulty. Also, you can try putting a couple drops of lube on the tip before inserting to make things easier. If you can, ask your female friends if you can try one of theirs so you can experim...

I have one tattoo. It's just below my collarbone and off to the side a little. It's a little more than an inch long and about an inch high. It's a puzzle piece, outlined in black, and filled with blue that fades to green. I chose the design for a few reasons. Personally, I like the puzzle piece as a...

I love my sunglasses! I got hooked working as a waterfront lifeguard, where I really needed them all day, every day at work. I'm hypersensitive to light, especially fluorescent lights (I can see them flicker), so I wear my shades inside and out. I have found that it's much easier to interact with pe...

I carry a card in my wallet with emergency contact information, a list of my medications, and my major issues (lol). It briefly describes some of my unusual behaviors and how to deal with them. I want a bracelet or something though, because no one would know it was there until they looked for ID (it...

Thank you for the explanation! That is fascinating. In ASL, there is only one sign for hearing, and it relates specifically to the ability to speak. There are several ASL signs for deaf, however. The most common is the BSL sign for hearing LOL but the second most common translates roughly to "ears s...

Kajjie, that's really funny, because yes, one of the most common ASL signs for Deaf is exactly what you just described as the BSL sign for hearing! The ASL sign for hearing actually refers to speech, which becomes interesting when an individual can hear but not speak. It's one of those cultural evol...

Usually, my speaking abilities are just within the accepted range of normality. On good days, in the right environment, I'm just the quiet kid who only really talks much with good friends. Hell, with good friends, I might talk a lot. Of course, with those friends, I'm in the right environment, and a...

Thank you, earthmom! I reread your original post, and wanted to further comment on your questions. In my experience, signs have been very intuitive. The few that I've encountered and didn't understand the reasoning behind, I could easily find out the history of the sign and make sense out of it. Kee...

I'm not fluent, but definitely conversational in ASL and I can use PSE when needed. I started learning ASL in kindergarten, not because I'm deaf, but because my kindergarten was awesome and had several d/Deaf students. I've had d/Deaf and HoH friends over the years, and when I didn't have a practice...
