Hi, Does anyone know what the distinction between sensory integration dysfunction, or now called sensory processing disorder, and Asperger's is. Are they two separate things and what makes someone one, but not the other? They seem closely related. Except maybe Asperger's has the special interests? |

One doctor did recommend Risperdal, but that medication scares me and we declined. I have a bother-in-law with permanant very visible whole body motor tics caused by anti-psychotics. I won't try those. I was on SSRI's for anxiety and it did well for me, but I don't know how it will do for my son. I ... |

Is your son aware that he does these things? Does he ask a lot of questions when he sees similar behaviours in others? When he notices this in others is a good time to talk about it. I outgrew a lot of this, staying true to PDD form. I think that he is aware of it. I don't think he can really stop ... |

That's interesting that the stimulant helped some with anxiety. My son was on a few different stimulants over the past 4 years. They seemed to stopped any stimming, but did not really help with concentration or focus or anxiety. Plus he seemed to get flat and withdrawn. He seemed more focused on int... |

As far back as I can remember, my son has had some behaviors that annoy other kids. I think it is stimming. It is hard to discribe. He makes a lot of noises not really in context to play. He used to roll around on the floor and stick his butt in the air, he doesn't do this anymore. He may do a littl... |

Hi, My son (14) seems to have a lot of anxiety in social situations. He visibly looks awkward and uncomfortable. At home in in groups where he is comfortable he is much more himself. But in school, if he has to talk in front of the class or try to fit in, he has anxiety and speaks to softly and awkw... |

I don't know about others, but my son did not get an AS diagnosis, yet I think he has so many of th traits that I was suprised. His couselor thinks it's AS, too. The couselor thought that Children's in Cincinnati is very cautious with diagnosing. |

I think it isn't a matter of trust, but rather a matter of not being able to read you. My son gets flat effect and I am always worrying that something is wrong. I don't know how he is feeling or if something is bothering him. Not being able to know what someone is feeling makes people unsure of how ... |

Does your son have any problems that an AS diagnosis would help alleviate or solve? I think that the AS diagnosis is more important in helping him understand why he is having difficulities. If it is AS we can say, these are some of the things that you can be aware of. If it is not AS, it seems wron... |

That's interesting that 55 percent have that. That seems high. Oddly enough, my son seems over it for the day. He gets that way anyway now and then, maybe it was his regular stimming type stuff. So I think will keep at it for now and see. I am hoping this will help with social anxiety for him. |

My son is just 14, maybe they consider a minimum dose of sertraline for kids different from adults. Hwoever, I think when I was on Lexapro, I started like my son, half of 25. |

He is taking 1/2 a tablet. A full being 25 mg.
The prescription is 1/2 for a week, then a full for a week then 1 1/2 for a week to get to 37.5 mg
I did Lexapro back when. I felt horrible the first week then fine after that, but never restless or "hyper", so that is why I am so curious. |

He is on the lowest dose. This does not really seem to state that this is a temporary adjustment side effect that may fade as he gets used to it. Any thing about that? |

Hi, Anyone get differing opinions about an AS diagnosis? My son exhibits a lot of the traits, two psychologists say it is AS. We took him to Children's Hospital in Cincinnati and the specialist there said no. Also, his speech therapist said no. They say no because he tested very well on speech and l... |

My son just started sertraline for anxiety. He has had it two days now. I noticed today that he seems a bit hyper. Anyone know if this is a side effect? If so, does this go away after an adjustment period? |
