For the core subjects community colleges are usually better than universities since the classes are smaller and more often taught by PhD's rather than a TA.

Ditto to that. I was a TA once upon a time, so I know that most of them get almost no training.

Again, assuming you're in the U.S., there's a lot that can be done. Every campus is required to have an office (or at least a staff) that deals with the needs of students with disablities, so they'd be the ones to contact. They can't help him get accepted to college, but they can help with things li...

Omega 3 supplements are good for anyone - my whole family takes them, including our ASD son. I highly recommend finding some that she'll take and sticking with them whether you see a visible effect or not.

Good luck with the doc!

I don't have my son on the full protocol, but he is on the GFCF diet and some supplements, and within a month of starting the diet, his language gains were just staggering. He went from having almost no receptive language to understanding everything said to him and following instructions. His expres...

Allergies can make you miserable, so yes, they can increase negative symptoms of any condition. I know that when my allergies get bad enough, I feel like I can't even remember my own name, much less function normally.

If I were you, I'd just keep doing interventions for children with autism and wait to see what happens. Better to do the interventions and be wrong about her being an autie, than to not do them and find out she definately is one in a few years time I agree 100%. The good news is, the interventions ...

Borage is a herb and it won't cure autism. Google it.. And fish-oil too.
And see what others think of it.

Again best of luck,

Thanks - not looking for an herbal cure, just curious about it for health reasons.

I agree - if she's young, it's likely your perception of her. When my son was diagnosed, he suddenly looked 1000 times more autistic to me than the day before. Once I settled into the idea, I realized it was just me.

Never thought about this - thanks for the tip! I guess it's no wonder one of my son's first phrases was "drink please."

sh**, I should have said that way earlier. Or emphasize that a healthy diet is the base. I feel a bit stupid 'cos that's way more important, of course. Good food. A nice prepaired fishmeal or a meal with schrimps o.s.. That increases your omega 3 intake. Or on another day make a salad with lettuce,...

My son takes Coromega every day, and my husband and I both take fish oil pills - can't remember the brand. It's never made him smell funky, and I haven't noticed any increase in gas or anything. We did go through six or seven different kinds to find one that agreed with him though. The first couple ...

Honestly, whether there's a connection or not, the ingredients in vaccinations scare the hell out of me. My son had them all up through age 2, but he won't be getting any more for quite a while. I do believe that the shots contributed to his autism, if only indirectly, but the fact that they contain...

I think it depends entirely upon the child and his/her needs. In my son's case intensive therapy like ABA just isn't necessary, but for some kids it's all that can teach them to respond to anything. He needs OT (occupational therapy) and speech therapy and is getting both through the local school sy...

Thanks for posting! I'll have to try this one out. We've only been on the diet a little over a month, so I'm still learning how to bake without all the usual ingredients.

Right now we don't do anything special at home - we just became aware that there was a problem a month ago, so we're no where near set up with any programs. He just started ST and OT this week, but that's it. RDI is Relationship Development Intervention. It's relatively new but seems to be getting g...
