Again, that’s the NT way of seeing intelligence. As someone on the spectrum my intelligence often only activates when it's directed towards an area of extreme interest and focus . This makes it hard to use as a tool. My intellectual pursuits are my hobbies. Practical life matters don't generate eno... |

Roman, 1. One needs be extremely clear when talking with you, because you are very clever, and have a way of sabotaging the discussion to prove that you have hopeless problem. I do this too, so therefore am more able to see it when you employ this tactic. Subpoint: You will require a mate who can se... |

Well, yes... Are you considering a solution to this? Or an explanation for why your present strategies aren't working out too well? "Trying to make yourself happy" isn't always effective.....especially if you don't already have a fairly clear idea of what usually does make you happy. There are quite... |

If less intelligent beings were better at surviving than more intelligent forms, then there would probably be a trend toward less intelligence. No? It does seem that in the modern world, less intelligent humans are better at surviving than more intelligent ones, and there appears to be a trend towa... |

Sinsboldly's comment made me think I finally understood this. Now I don't know. Apparently my self-image is rather fragile when exposed for long periods socially. Anything more than brief friendly encounters, and I have trouble maintaining. Too much socializing may temporarily or permanently damage ... |

Responding to Maggie--
Hmm...if you have a lot of friends, and people like to be with you, how can you still be having social problems?
Maybe being stoned makes NTs more autistic, and autistics more NT?? |

The newest information is Asperger's Syndrome presents differently in women and girls than it does in men and boys. Women are under different pressures and expectations and can often 'fake it' by being considered 'shy' and 'self effacing'. Trying to cope will cause reactions like post tramatic stre... |

Glider got his excess musical talent from me, I have none, and people get upset when I say I can live without it. I got the technology, and come what may, we all get 100% of something. The bulk of people are at the 50th percentile, in a close grouping. They cannot imagine being any other way as bei... |

Tai Chi is one of my most favorite things in the whole world. It makes me feel connected up with the universe, and is soooo healing. Anyone who wants to be happier and healthier and more peaceful--should try Tai Chi.
And thank you Aspie4u for your post. |

Glider, I'm sure your father is very proud of you. My question: What did he do to encourage your pursuit of those activities for which you had talent and interest (especially when it became clear you had no interest in, or talent for, baseball)? |

During childhood and adolescence, I managed with a few friends, and almost always had a best friend. As an adult, peer relationships have been far more challenging.

Hopefully the system I proposed would facilitate a complete reversal of attitude toward autistics, to one where our skills and talents are seen as valuable. To prevent us from contributing those skills and talents-- is a waste of the most precious natural resources. We would be dx'ed and classified ... |

Autism exists , AS doesn't exist. Tend to agree with LPP's assessment. My suggestion would be to delete AS and add 2 new categories to the autism spectrum, EHFA and MFA. EHFA......Exceptionally high functioning autistic HFA........High MFA........Moderate LFA.........Low Most of those diagnosed AS ... |

AS is not a good fit for me. It is more likely I am moderate to high functioning autistic, rather than AS [which I would be dx'ed, except for no delay in speech development, however there was quite significant delay in reading ability]. And if AS at all, it is a mild variation. Most aspies appear a ... |
