Snuggle it sounds like a really good system is in place in your area! It sounds very similar to ours in many respects. Although here children will get an ASD diagnosis much earlier. If it is not entirely clear they are given a " provisional diagnosis" so they are able to access various allowances an...

I would be pretty wary of a Ed psych in NZ doing an ASD diagnosis, ( although I can think of one that I work with who would do a good job ) there are no objective tests for ASD, the closest is the ADOS, ( which is still subjective ) and that is only just beginning to be used in NZ. I know in Dunedin...

My county offers free services and evaluations, thanks to us tax payers! If "free" appeals to your cousins, you could mention this to them. They could contact their county's intermediate unit and simply say, "I believe my child has a speech delay." That's all I had to do to get my son started with ...

P.S, if it's at all helpful , it is rare to see stimming outside of ASD, and also children with intellectual disability will stim. Drooling, in your sons case, sounds like it is the result of generalised low tone ( also the reason he trips over his feet no doubt ) and will most likely improve with t...

I think you hit the nail on the head there, I think with our children we find a diagnosis helpful to access services, find information, gather support and just to * know * what it is seems important. I know with my own son I knew there was something not right, but I had no idea what for a long time....

I think there is a way out of it, but the first steps are never going to be easy and not always positive. I think you deserve a great woman in your life Cyberman, and I'm sitting here quietly in NZ cheering you on :)

I think regarding a diagnosis.. all that will give you is a name for the complete picture ( if there is one ) in the meantime , work on the things that you see are hard for him. Having a diagnosis will not change the actual presentation or the therapy that you do with him We often work with children...

Every Friday I do two assessments on under 5's, some come out with a diagnosis of some kind, many are put on the " watch this space " list. It sounds to me like he is a little different. But I am very hesitant to mention anything on here, since without actually seeing your son it is impossible to sa...

Cyberman, I really think you need to just put the comments to one side from those that think that there is no need to have a bf gf, and remember that this is a website dominated mostly by people with ASD. So a large number are going to feel that way, and that is fine for them. However.. if you want ...

Now, he wants to get back together if he doesn't find another girl to try and 'see' in the next month or so. He says that the two girls he tried put him off of trying to meet new people. Your happy to be the girl that just hangs around if nothing better comes along for him ? .... I know I would not...

One of the things that I suggest to my parents is that they keep an eye out for * budding routines*, if they think the routine is one that is needed and productive - encourage it. e.g the child likes to arrive at school at the same time every day and pack their school bag a certain way, or put their...

Ster it might take her a while to get the hang of mind maps/ word webs, but I am sure she will find them helpful in the long term once she gets into the swing of it. The other thing you can try is relating it to real life experiences for her, if she is able to generalise somewhat, relating it back t...

I think most people understand that this is a difficult time for them, but I think also paying customers ( for a company that makes MASSIVE profits.. would like to see a little more communication around areas of difficulty, rather than the platitudes that are normally offered with no monetary compen...

Speech as far as a Speech Pathologist/ SLT is concerned is the production of the sound , what is spoken, the sound created by breath passing over the vocal folds and then shaped by a series of valves and cavities. So if you have a speech delay - by definition you have a delay in sound acquisition, a...

We play on Oceanic servers, the customer service is a complete joke, we are well used to having our realms almost unplayable for months. Patch day .. was just another day on our realms. But all that aside, I'm looking forward to seeing the new content and also the option of more 10 man raids. I've r...
