Nachtus01, I like your post, too. Are you sure you are not conflating the eye gaze problem with its derivative divided attention task problem? I can hold the eye gaze if I really focus and concentrate, even in a busy public place (despite the enormous energy depletion this costs me), but it is true...

for me personally, i feel very lucky to see my, "disabilities", especially in a world full of "NT's", who cannot, or will not, see their own. For me, this puts me one step ahead of them, or above them, if you feel like being condescending, lol. The thing i try to keep in mind, however, is that, just...

we are disabled....and its not because that's how the, "NT's", have labeled us. Disabled is a state of being....for some, it could change over time, for others, it never will. I am disabled because I have limitations that I cannot change.....period. Disabled isnt necessarily a bad thing, its a misun...

So, I would have to regard the failure to hold the eye gaze even by a person with AS -- especially one as high functioning and who can hold employment such as your husband, as rather dubious, and very likely an excuse. Liked your post. I agree, but disagree at the same time with your above quote, h...

When we go out to dinner, he hardly looks at me and doesn't talk about much. Then why do you agree to go? Aspies may not hold eye contact much, but do talk to the person they're with. And not having anything to talk about with one's spouse on an outing is indicative of couple trouble, not of AS. Fi...

My IQ is not nearly so great as that of your husbands, mine is a mere 139, and knowing this and being married to and "averaged IQ" NT has is advantages and disadvantages for both of us. This has not kept us from being married for 13 years, or together for 15. I can understand, from your husbands poi...

I usually do not try to make comments that might leave others in a bad light, after all, this is America, and you most certainly are entitled to your opinion......having said that, I must confess that I am deeply baffled by your willingness to "throw in the towel", on a man who has yet to have taken...

I actually tossed IE for this very reason. The version of IE was irrelevant...I was using the beta, but a bug that they didnt seem to care about kept crashing the browser, so i went back to IE7. For me, the problem wasn't just this site, but nearly every site I visited. Just opening IE took 10-15 se...

I spent some time trying various drugs, approximately 3 years. I will not get into the its right or its wrong argument. Instead, I will only ask that you be ready for the consequences when/if they come. I was perfectly happy doing weed, and meth, when I was doing them. I haven't used since 1993. I a...

First, this is something that you should try to discuss, and not let it become an argument. If you must, ask your mother to listen, without interruption, as you lay out your case, and then give her the opportunity to do the same. For your part, you should let her know, that regardless of if she is t...

Make it $10 million, and the answer would still be no. Why? well, if you gave me a cure, i would then be normal. If I become normal, then I will be like everyone else, and do foolish things with that money, like put it into a failing bank, or a corrupted stock market and loose it all, or at least mo...

Nachtus01: I completely understand what you're saying, but I don't think it quite hits my question, though that is most likely my failing, not anyone else's. This concept is intensely difficult for me to describe. I'm not really so much confused about what makes me so unique, so much as why THIS li...

This is a very interesting topic, one I myself have indulged in from time to time. I think the answer became more clear to me when Dolly the Sheep was cloned. She was her mother 100%. In every physical way, except...how could that be? In order to be her mother, she would have to literally retake and...

I'd have to read more of his book. Because the way I read that, it sounded like he's not saying Autism doesn't exist, but that all these bad parents who are raising dumb kids want to blame something for their failure, so they pick Autism as an excuse. It's like parents who blamed their kids' bad be...

I wrote 4 to 5 hours, but the amount actually varies. Usually I get 4 to 6 hours, and about once a week crash for about 12 hours. I have been doing this for as long as I can remember.

Ok, so let me get this straight. He says, "There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help ex...
