Thank you AnnePande and AngelRho for your responses to my post. AnnePande: You're right, I think once I'm more comfortable in personal relationships I'll be more comfortable about talking about my relationship with God. There aren't that many real-life people that I don't feel awkward or self-consci...

Thanks all -- you have much wisdom, which I shall now go off and ponder. Seems like the world would be a much better place if we didn't have to plow through all the garbage at work -- early retirement, even at a poverty level, is looking more attractive all the time . . . ;) ASPIEd Best wishes for ...

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but this is a great thread and this is a topic that I've been wanting to talk about but don't have people to talk about it with. Also, to those who are unable to sympathize with people who have religious beliefs: This is a thread for people to get support, and not to...

People with official diagnoses aren't always necessarily properly diagnosed either. Amen. I was professionally misdiagnosed with ADD in my mid-20's. The psychiatrist was an expert on female ADD'ers, and had an agenda. Upon doing my own research (and after the medication screwed me up) I came to the...

My home is messy but spartan. The best I could ever do is get a few plants to liven up the place (not all of them live). The only things I have on my walls are a few non-standard maps. I wish I were more visually creative, but I'm not. And I bet with my level of dexterity I wouldn't even be able to ...

PS: Also, even if they tell you you're doing a bad job, it doesn't necessarily mean that they're fire you. Here's a partial list of why people give bad evaluations: - You're really doing a crappy job and you need to know that. - Regardless of how you're performing, they don't want you anymore, and t...

Unfortunately it's not fair, and unfortunately it happens more frequently than you'd think in work situations. In my current job and my previous one, I was given unfair evaluations by people who had not observed me first-hand, and who had their information fed to them by someone inherently prejudice...

I'm contemplating a career in special ed/speech therapy/general counselling (probably with a focus on people on the spectrum). Being an SLP might be the most obvious route--I used to teach linguistics for a living and have taught many SLP-wannabes. The structured work environment is also enticing. H...

Has anyone here gone into counselling and have stories of success to share?

Lots of us here have had difficulty keeping a job. But how do you guys make sure you have good recommendation letters for your next gig? I'm not worried about looking for my next job and getting interviews; I'm worried about getting positive references. I have no idea what kind of crap certain cowor...

Don't count on making friends at work, and be careful about confiding anything to anyone because that information can be used against your employment. But you can always work on gaining goodwill and earning brownie points so that people will cooperate with you (hugely important in most workplaces). ...

I get this a lot too. I'd think that I've made a very clear point, just to have a whole boardroom of confused looks and people politely trying to move on to a different subject. At first I attributed it to people being dumb. But eventually I came to accept that I process information differently from...

This is a really, really sore point for me. My first job was being a university professor. I got rave reviews from the students and even praise from the department chair for my teaching. I trained my teaching assistants well and ran a well-oiled teaching team. I showed an active interest in the deve...
