Thank you for your replies I will take your advice on board. I hadn't thought that trying to keep him away would have the opposite affect. There will be no more playdates with this particular kid, school contact will be the limit and I'll just have to try and reinforce our rules when I see behaviour...

My son 5 made a friend early on in preschool. He glues to this kid and doesnt want to play with anyone esle. I'm extremely happy for him that he has found a friendship. BUT this child is a negative influence on my son because of his behaviour. This child is allowed to get away with things that I do ...

It is frustrating to have communication difficulties with anyone. So, yes, a parent can get aggrevated when trying to explain a concept to a child that the child just isn't getting. All one can do is keep trying. At some point, maybe, you can both agree to talk about it "later." Sometimes stepping ...

My 4 yr old daughter chews her shirt collars when she is over tired or over stimulated. She also licks my face frequently, both as a show of play (like a puppy) and as a show of affection (she is starting to kiss, but prefers to lick) This is exactly what my son does :) For DS it's an anxiety thing...

If I take a toy away for some time or if he looses privledges, he is ten times worse and has no affect at all in trying to teach him right from wrong. He doesnt understand consequences for undesireable behaviour at all. This kind of "discipline" is unlikely to work with many Aspies, in large part (...

I can relate! We have no family here and no reliable friends to help....When I'm sick it's just me to look after the kids and its hard. You feel like you cant get on top of things and become sick easily again soon after you've recovered. The cycle goes on! I have to set my mind to positive and belie...

I feel for you. I'll be very interested in reading this thread as we are going through the same thing with my son. However he's throwing things at walls and spitting at things rather than hitting us.... not sure why he is doing this either, and wont talk to us. He gets lots of love affection and att...

Thank you :) I feel relieved that I'm not the only one that feels this way at times. It is confusing... given the different opinions of others. The uncertainty of the dx mostly arises when others suggest otherwise such as his speech teacher or when things are running smoothly. Yet when I chat about ...

Thank you for your replies :) I'm thinking that I'll wait it out a bit longer for re assessment. ( I wish I had a crystal ball and had the answer to take the right path for the best outcome for DS ) However I do feel that he's not getting any extra help having the label, i guess it's because at this...

My Son's speech therapist/teacher has advised us to have our son re assessed/reviewed for different diagnosis. She doesn't believe that the "Mild Autism" label fits him (diagnosed at 3.5years now 5 years). She doesnt see any of the repetitiveness or social issues that are common in kids with Autism....

I feel so blessed having had a diagnosis for my son. Before dx we assumed our son (3yo at the time of dx) was troubled by things relating to our move interstate as well as a new baby sister arriving... he was displaying many emotional reactions and ocd behaviours, and seemingly showing jealousy towa...

Laurannehere; I'm wondering if it would be helpful to invest in a set of ear muffs for Jamie for home use.. you can get some child size ones.. We're actually using adult ones which are quite firm and work very well. We've been using them since the week end... My son has a special spot where he keeps...
