This is what I feel like happened: When I was six I stopped growing up emotionally because I lost track of emotions at all. At twelve I felt very mature and that I knew everything. I felt thirty at least. Then things went all strange for a few years, and at 16 I popped open and started to age emotio... |

I write dialogue pretty well now, but it took a lot of work. I feel like I'm actually particularly good at showing not telling, especially in terms of body language, since I have trouble with that and always have to consciously notice it. A lot of the time I write the dialogue straight out first, th... |

Faces, I'm pretty good at. Expressionless or calm faces I do quite well. Surprise is my second best. Anger and fear, I do all right. Anything more complex than that I really struggle with. I have a big book of faces for photo reference, but I only get it out when I'm really stuck. I'm all right at i... |

My dad has AS, and although we aren't close, I get along with him. Both of us have learned how to talk to people a lot better, but not with each other. I kind of have a vicarious relationship with him through my younger sister, who we both talk to. Sometimes something sets him off and he will yell, ... |

When I was a child I spoke in a very low, quiet monotone. In college I learned to imitate other people's voices. Perhaps choir and theater classes help. I actually have a very large range; I can sing most soprano and a lot of tenor parts. When I'm trying very hard to express emotion in my voice I sp... |

I've never felt that I had to comply to a certain gender identity. I guess I'm lucky that way, I'm comfortable just being me. I usually avoid overtly feminine things like dangly jewelry and too much pink and makeovers. That just doesn't feel like me. I guess it helps that my mom and sisters were nev... |

It looks blue to me, too, but I know my laptop monitor is skewed to blue-purple because in black-and-white pictures all the greys look indigo. |

Hi! I'm Irene. I probably have Asperger's. As a child my parents were told to put me on Ritalin, even though I didn't have a diagnosis of any kind. I remember talking to a school counselor. She asked me whether I wanted to have friends and be thin. I said I didn't care. She didn't believe me. I beli... |

I have imaginary conversations with imaginary people. In college I had a couple of specific characters. One of them had an Australian accent. I don't know whether this was because I would eventually want to be a novelist, or whether my enjoyment of writing came from my tendency to do this. Probably ... |
