Ah, the question I was so often troubled with as a shy kid and teenager. How do you become actual friends with that nice girl from your math class, not just have a casual "hi and bye" friendship? I used to think that you can become close with people just by seeing them on a regular basis and gradual...

Good to hear from you, Black_tea! I've always wanted to have a twin... Anyway, yeah, your experience sounds very much like mine! I didn't have anyone tell me I might have AS until college, but other than that, it really does sound similar. I'm glad you have friends now, too! Yeah... I spend ...

HSP is not the same thing as Asperger's. It says on the site that HSP's get overwhelmed easily, need downtime and lots of sleep, and are really sensitive to noise and changes in the environment. That may apply to Asperger's too, except HSP's don't have problems with communication, social skills, and...

Sure, it can be annoying and pointless, but what makes it harder than having a deep conversation?

Um, grad girl , are you my long-lost twin by any chance? Seriously, though, you sound almost exactly like me. My therapist thought I might have a very mild form of Asperger's when I was about 13, which came as a shock to me. I always thought I was just shy and quirky, but not someone with an a...

I strongly believe that you can't overcome AS... you probably had behaviours that appeared AS-like during your childhood, but they were not prominent enough to be pervasive. There are many, many people out there who exhibit AS-like behaviours and did so even more strongly when they were children, b...

Every time I try to bring up something intellectual to talk about people just stare at me dumbly. Is mediocrity compulsory for ALL conversational topics? It depends on the situation and the people you're with. Also, on the topic. Intellectual topics are generally OK in the right society, as long as...

A lot of Asperger's traits just look like normal variations in personality. A person can keep to themselves, process information more slowly than others, dislike small talk, hate noisy environments, and act reserved during personal conversations, but these are also the signs of introversion. Also, w...

If autism and Asperger's exist on a spectrum that gradually blends in with neurotypicals, then it's difficult to say where Asperger's ends and NT behavior begins. If Asperger's was a spectrum all it's own, ranging from those who have significant social problems to those who are just really shy and q...

I have recently began to intergrate myself into the modern Neurotypical world. My social skills are good enough that I can pass for a NT if I don't talk too much(people assume I am the quit profesional type) From watching some of these Nuerotypicals, I can't believe how ret*d socialization is. A gr...

Speaking of weird traditions like shaking hands, one thing I've never understood is the tradition of "blessing" someone when they sneeze. I understand where the tradition came from (medieval superstition about demons), but I don't get why people still do it. Why should there be an entire social int...

My dad keeps saying he has Asperger's, and I've always denied it because he has an excellent intuition and seems to get people very well. However, lately I've started thinking that maybe he's right. Here's why: 1) He hates social interaction with anyone but family. When he was young, he had lots of ...

I don't understand how you guys can say you have Asperger's if you're that sensitive to people's moods. Isn't inability to read others' emotions a hallmark of AS??? :? This leads me to the suggestion that there are more overdiagnosed NT's here than you think. You do not have to read others emotions...

It really varies, apparently. When I joined these forums, I entered feeling I'd be able to relate since I was officially diagnosed with a minor degree of Asperger's earlier this year. But now I think that I would have been able to relate to everyone here from, maybe, when I was in elementary school...
