Yes, never thought I would, but then decided to at 35. If both of my kids weren't diagnosed on the spectrum, I never would have known I was. It explained a lot.

So Many! This is one that comes to mind. "All the Time" by Barry Manilow All the time I thought There's only me Crazy in a way That no one else could be I would have given everything I own If someone would have said you're not alone All the time I thought That I was wrong Wanting to be me,...

After that, I started to do a bit of research on it and the more I read, the less I could deny it. It was sort of like the movie, 'The Sixth Sense' where once you find out he's dead and look back over the movie, everything starts to make sense and you can see why what's been going on has been going...

Worst mistake I ever made was telling my GP about my Asperger's diagnosis. She treated me like a clueless child from that point on. I never reveal my diagnosis to docs anymore, and fortunately I do well pretending to be NT. Best doc I ever met was a gastroenterologist... he listened to me, was respe...

Thanks for all the replies. After reading them I've decided to go back a few more times to end it correctly, rather than running in the other direction as fast as I can the way I usually do. As for another therapist (ugh!! !) I'll take some names but I probably won't volunteer to do this again (unti...

For the past 18 years off and on I have worked with a therapist, who told me last week he is retiring in two months. He's 73, so it wasn't like I didn't know it would happen, but still, my head pretty much imploded with this news. I don't think I need to tell anyone here how much I don't like change...

I have a 6 year old son who is very bright and loud and active and it takes everything for him to keep it together at school. He literally explodes when he gets home. I have a 4 year old son who is filled with anxiety and has speech comprehension issues and he implodes when he gets home. When the tw...

Oh wow, I had no idea there was an actual name for this (misophonia).

I also have extreme sensitivity to "mouth noises" and the worst part is my son who is 6 (also an aspie) stims with mouth noises. It's brutal! I have not seen the Kit Kat commercial.

I gave up on group therapy in my mid-20's (way before I knew I had AS) after a few different attempts with a few different groups, for many of the reasons you listed. I second either finding an AS group or an individual counselor.

I "see" lyrics when I hear songs, and so many times I take the phrase literally and see a really crazy scene. For example, The Jets had a song called "You've got it all over him" and I always wondered what she got all over him, like as in a plate of spaghetti? :? Then there's John Denver's "You Fill...

YIKES! 8O Lower than I expected, but hey, I have other skills than socializing. You are 5% neurotypical! You aren't neurotypical at all. Sure, it may mean others think of your social skills as "very poor", but that's doesn't mean you aren't good at anything, you probably have a skill other th...

Yes! I think this is a special interest as I also used to write lyrics in class or whenever I was waiting somewhere, stressed out especially. I could literally not hear a song for 25 years and then just know the lyrics. Sometimes it gets in the way because so many times someone will say a phrase and...

26 was a horrible age for me. I was also very much alone, drinking too much, hopeless. I just kept trying, trying. This was before I knew anything about ASD or even that I was remotely on the spectrum. I agree with trying again for your license. Anything to use as inspiration. I also found a therapi...

As soon as I can, I'm getting noise cancelling headphones. Those things are awesome. I walked into the noisiest, brightest, busiest Bestbuy and tried some on. Have you tried any? I'm not saying it's going to be a cure-all, but I felt immediate relief. I was wanting to get some of these too. My life...

Help! :( I need some encouragement from the only people out there who understand. I have 2 little sons, both diagnosed with pdd-nos (they're aspies) who recently took swimming lessons at the local YMCA. 8 lessons in one month, and it took me until lesson 6 to get over my own memories of being "force...
