I wish I had both the time and mental focus to read Dr. Boghossian's text for myself. That said, I gather his work is a critique of the postmodernist twin towers of relativism and "constructivism." I will limit my observations thus: If metaphysics is the study of "being as such" [ ens qua ens ], as ...

It might be easier to count all the normal things I did as a kid, so eccentric was I. But here's some highlights.... - I already mentioned in another post liking to watch records spin while they were playing. At age 5, this began translating into my designing my own "record labels" on paper, complet...

It was only 1½ years ago, at age 42, that I had my first experience - to someone who spoke of it as the beginning of what she and I called an "intimate friendship." I developed an instant emotional attachment to her. But vicious undercurrents within her psyche, in combination with the way the experi...

I look forward to hearing more from you. I'm a traditional Christian also. Fortunately, no one here hates me for that. The key, as I've found particularly in these last couple of years, is to be aware of how to speak to that in public ... and how not to. With that, I utilize my AS-driven "analytica...

... No matter how bad I want to (not) get along with someone, I can't seem to make it happen. I went to my first AS meetup tonight. It was GREAT! I met some nice parents and some people on the Spectrum, young and adult. I really liked it, and I talked to my new friend, M for just about the entire m...

For the small number of chances I've had, I got that line more than once. Hard to build up any sense of proficiency or confidence if one can't find someone both understanding and patient.

Very well expressed, MTB. If I could only be so fluid in expressing my trains of thought.... My own "existential depression" was triggered when, moving to a new school to start 3rd grade, within the first month I was caught in an embarrassing idiosyncratic act and became an instant pariah. By the en...

I've been confused for a narcissist several times in life, even from within my family. A year ago I dated a woman who quickly came to the conclusion that I was narcissistic - yet she had very mixed feelings about me, which is why she didn't dismiss me right away. It was when I told her of my realiza...

I used to believe that when someone said something, it was always their true belief/opinion/feeling/thought except in very rare occasions. Oh, wow, that one! You know, I could make a list like some of the others here, but this is the one thing that has caused the most damage (by far). Sometimes, pe...

Just took this test for the first time. 137/65 - my Aspie traits were off the charts in some areas and in others I was in the middle of the NT-Aspie zones. This seems to jibe with the sense I've had that I'm a mild but still definite case.

... Manipulation is a fact in some relationships, as it is in much social activity too. A manipulator will NEVER openly say "Hi, I'm a manipulator and how do you thing I can best use you?". Accusing others is one of their tools, basically: "Behave how I want in a manner that is of benefit to me OR ...

I'll go ahead and revive this one, as I dig through the archives.... Mine is an emblem I designed five years ago for "Keystone Records," a label entirely of my own invention. (I use it for labels I print up to stick onto custom-made CD's. Yes, I've had a particular fascination with record labels sin...

.... In a way, I have given up at fitting in, but only to really get comfortable with myself, until I feel confident to go back out and try to be in public groups just to hang out.... Interestingly enough, this is largely what I've been doing since my diagnosis last year. I'm rather amazed that the...

The hardest grudges to think of letting go of are those that involve people who hurt me from a position of superiority of some kind, especially those who've strategically situated themselves to render any response from me ineffective. I'm still dealing with one such case, a betrayal I sustained 4 ye...

I agree that life does not discriminate people do. However people have a massive impact on life. A significant part of life is interacting with with people and the environment. Most of our environment is a society created by flawed biased people. Therefore life does actually discriminate. I started...
