Have you ever found your 'special interests'/obsessions to be so strong or alluring that they interfere with other areas of your life? |

This may or may not be helpful, but I have a suggestion regarding your oral presentation. When I give speeches, I've found it quite helpful to write out the speech I'm going to give verbatim, and then write the major points in bullet points on flash cards - you know, the first line of a paragraph, k... |

I know there are receptive speech and expressive speech and a person can have issues with one and not the other. Since facial expression is part of communication, it makes sense that it would also be expressive and receptive, paralleling verbal speech. What do you mean? Isn't all speech expressive ... |

I'm the same way. Especially with facial expressions. Recognizing tone of voice/body language isn't as a much of a problem as facial expressions. I'm also expressive with my face, though I have been told that I'm quite expressive with my mouth, and less expressive with my eyes, whereas NTs tend to ... |

I know that some people with high-functioning autism have little expression in their face, or speak in a somewhat monotone voice. However, I have never had those problems. My voice is as varied as other people's, and I've been told that I'm very expressive. Yet, I have difficulty noticing and interp... |

Recently someone I knew was watching the most recent episode of Bar Rescue called "Sour Lemons and Bitter Business". He calls me and says "I think that guy has autism," referring to Jacob (not me), the landlord of the bar being rescued in the episode. He's very interested in pain... |

It used to be that years ago, the basics of socializing confused me. Now I'm at the point where I can talk and interact with people fine, and most people don't think anything of it. I think I'm somewhat analytical with socializing. I learned psychology and sociology and combined with my own experien... |

It really is.
Here's a good website that breaks down social conventions and explains them in a straightforward manner. The author is just one guy, but he has some experience in psychology and such, as well as his own life experience.

Why so defeatist? I've gotten to the point where most people don't even realize there's anything different about me unless I tell them. Throughout my life I've learned a few rules to help guide me. I also found that learning about sociology and psychology, but especially sociology, helped me to unde... |

I also think it's a pretty good portrayal in general. But is it realistic that someone of her age and status as a police officer wouldn't have learned to cope better by that point? I mean, would they really allow a homicide detective who was so poor at dealing with victims families? |

I kind of like the concept, but I think it's a bit heavy handed. The main character is in her 30s, and still has the significant problems that she does? Especially considering she's a cop, and a detective at that. For instance, the beginning with the ambulance, I understand why she'd react that way,... |

Has anyone ever described you as "intense"? I was told that once and was surprised, although I suppose it makes sense. I'm not intense all the time, and I can be quiet, but when I get to telling stories about myself, I can't help but get passionate about it. I just love life, and I feel like I gain ... |

True, although I'm not shy, I'm fairly outgoing. So I don't know how to explain that. |

Maybe it's just that it seems that a lot of guys my age discuss things like video games, which bore me for the most part. |

Lately I've been thinking about how much easier it seems that I make friends and acquaintances with females. I have only 1 male friend. Is that unusual? I mean, I'm a guy, but it just seems like I connect with women easier, like I have more empathy towards them. But in several threads, I've read abo... |

Doesn't work.. Those theories have all been debunked. Unfortunately psychoanalysis is still alive in France and i'ts hurting people with autism. We made a documentary about it. I thought that a lot of Sigmund Freud's theories have been debunked. About France, I know that there's more than Lacanian ... |
