Provided the brain aneurysm I was recently diagnosed with doesn't cripple or snuff me. Amazing--another WP person with a brain aneurysm! That was my medical adventure of 20 years ago. Best wishes for a good outcome from your embolization. My compensations for my traits were largely lost in the afte...

The few NTs I've "come out" to have been either dismissive or, more often, just given me a blank and incurious stare.

Yeah, it's a relief to finally be able to know what it is that make us different and has made our lives so difficult, but I balk at getting a formal diagnosis. I'm just not sure that it would be of any benefit to me and worry that it could actually interfere with my attempts to get ahead. Anyone dis...

If anything I would think Aspies would be at greater risk for addictive behavior than NTs. Obsession and compulsion are key elements of addiction. Whether or not one is social or not or skips school to party has little or nothing to do with it. Addicts are more likely to act out alone than in compan...

I am a 55 year-old male who has never found a niche or sufficient motivation to pursue a dream. A Peter Pan with thinning hair, bad skin, and no ability to fly, I have drifted with the currents my entire life, feeling myself to be more of an observer than a participant.. Pan's nemesis was Captain Ho...

Saw it with my wife Sunday. Only one other couple in the theater and this the only theater in Pinellas county showing the movie. So much for raising awareness of Asperger's, I guess. :? It seemed to me that Adam's character was a bit too Rain Man-like but I'm the only Aspie I know so I don't really ...

After half a century of cinema-watching, movies that probably would have put me into a catatonic state when I was a child have little effect on me these days, and I've seen some really sick s**t. Recently, however, I saw a movie that, for reasons I don't really comprehend, affected me strongly and v...

I tried a number of medications, some with horrible side effects, before finding a combination that works well for me: welbutrin and dexedrine.

I have been diagnosed as having an avoidant personality disorder and I believe that to be accurate. I am usually cool and ratonal in emergencies, but if for some reason I get flustered my brain takes a holiday and doesn't return untill I've regained my 'cool'. That could take anything from minutes t...

I learned to drive at 15 but didn't get my operator's permit until I was 28. My mother 'sold' me my first car at 30, her old station wagon. A few years later I bought a used Mazda minipick-up. I drove like the proverbial old lady until I took a job delivering pizza with Domino's. Amazing what that 3...

I despise English peas. They resemble nothing so much as fat, blood-engorged ticks. I also loathe dairy products aside from fresh, cold milk. butter, icecream, and sone aged cheeses. To me, sour cream is the worst of all. It smells like pus. Other unappealing foods include shellfish and the winter s...
