I am 42, no official diagnosis yet, but I seem to have many, if not most of the AS traits. Officially diagnosed as having ADHD in 1996 too.

I'm much happier finding a logical, action-oriented situation to a problem than trying to make someone feel better somehow. Although at this point I have learned the forumlaic words to be used when someone needs comforting, it rarely comes from my heart; the mental process is more like "ok, this pe...

I'm certainly no doctor, but I've had similar flashes and light-patterns on the periphery of my vision in the past. The first time it happened, I went to my eye doctor, who did an exam but found nothing wrong with my eyes. He suggested it may have something to do with migraines. I have had this happ...

I love to write, even though I must often go for long periods of time without doing so (at least the type of writing I enjoy, like poetry and creative, short stories). I have won several awards-- two of them even involved money-- for my poetry.

I take Adderall for my ADHD symptoms-- works pretty well. I tried Strattera for ADHD as well, but it made me very jumpy and kept me awake, so I went back on Adderall. Good forms of therapy for me are: long walks (especially in the woods), reading and writing. I seem to be able to work out most of wh...

I'm not always sure what people are thinking of me (nor do I usually care), but I'll list some of the opinions of me that others have shared with me: - "brainiac" - "restless" - "easily distracted" - "dynamic" - "a screw-up" - "reserved" - "aloof" - "thinks too much" - "shy" - "interesting" - "weird...

Yes. I find it easier to get along with people who share my interests, my introversion, my way of thinking, etc. All that stuff about opposites attracting is just nonsense.

Absolutely agree, 100%.

Torley: I read your article on friendships and enjoyed it. The thing about sharing obsessions (or mere interests) is, for me, a tricky one. I have trained myself to be acutely aware of how people react to what I am talking about-- this has never come naturally for me-- and I am now pretty good at kn...

Yep, I hate socializing unless it's with someone I know well and have enough in common to actually talk about. I can't stand characteristicly "NT" topics of conversation that seem very empty and idle. But if there's an intelligent conversation about an actual topic or even a range of topics, or at ...

I understand why we bury ourselves in our special interests; they won't disappoint us. I hear ya. I spend a lot more time alone than I do with others. I am naturally introverted anyway, so I tend to go off by myself if I need to wind down or decompress. But one of the first things I notice is how l...

I often find the pursuit of relationships to be emotionally taxing. I have unusual interests and not much in common with most of the people I come into contact with on a daily basis. I have no close friends at my job and I've worked there for over 6 years. I just have nothing in common with the peop...

Greetings to all, New to this forum. I am a 40 year old female who's been diagnosed with ADHD. Due to the urging of an acquaintance with Asperger's Syndrome, I took the A-Q test (score: 34) and have been reading quite a bit on the subject. The more I read about AS traits, the more I feel that some--...
