Since people love to talk and think about themselves (and love for others to show interest), i try to approach such interactions like I'm building up some sort of database on that person, or like I'm going to create them as a character in a book. I do that too and have a firm AS diagnosis. Actually it is a total pain because with rotating interests/obsessions it's really hard to figure out what to pursue in studies/career.
