When I was a small child, I did it to my parents, though not all the time, just occasionally, and thought that I was teasing them, just did it because they hated it and went up the wall. I didn't feel that it was a compulsion (though I didn't know the word then, of course) or anything like that: jus... |

I was 63 when diagnosed by a competent professional. I'd been going to my local Mental Health Center for years, for Clinical Depression, and on antidepressants. My daughter heard about Asperger's in a college Counseling course (the idea being Church Employee Counseling, a Christian college) and said... |

In particular, when I'm talking to someone, I can't be talking to someone else at the same time, at least not if they aren't part of the same conversation. I am simply unable to keep up with two different conversations at once. My mother was one of five sisters (and six brothers, but for this examp... |

Congratulations, L_Holmes! You've weathered the first obstacle in the "adulthood race" in the "living on your own" phase! I remember way back when I was a newlywed in a college town (not "really" "living on my own" because there were two of us), and we had a t... |

I worked at jobs all my life, though I'm retired and on Social Security now. I had a _lot_ of different jobs, but it wasn't all that hard finding another, though often I couldn't get the ones I'd rather have had, and sometimes the "vacation" between was longer than I'd have liked. I think ... |

I'm sure others on the spectrum can fake things quite well, especially those that are actors.
You can say THAT again! |

Oh, it's helped enormously. I'm just very glad to find out that there is a reason for my being who I am! I just deleted most of this post: I was starting to write my biography. It would be nice to have found out earlier, but that can't be changed at this point. It's really nice to know that I'm not ... |

I've never tried that sort of faking. I suspect that if I wanted to do it, I might be good at it. It's more like the creative writing of fiction than it is like lying to someone to their face, and trying to play a part in the flesh, with limited time between lines of dialogue. I was involved in a re... |

The joke is about how time SEEMS to fly when you're having fun, and how long it SEEMS to take when you're doing something you hate. The funny part is when you hit the cognitive dissonance of measuring it in terms of days (hours in a day), with the assumption that one hour is the same length as any o... |

It makes sense to me: clearly this is a person who hates his 9-5 40-hr job, and for some reason can't quit it and look for something else. |

I'm pretty sure I used to smoke a LOT of it in the 1970's-80's although it's all a bit hazy. :? I have heard it said that if you remember the sixties, you weren't there! :D I was there, though I never got into anything much harder than grass (a little opium, though not enough to get addicted). So m... |

I think the crux is in that word "never", taking it literally. I suspect that in general we lie a lot less than your average nt, and just dislike doing it, notice and are bothered when some little social remark is contrary to fact. That part is hard-wired? Everything else rises from the ps... |
